The Washington Capitals made tough decisions during their off day, cutting their training camp roster and placing several players on waivers for reassignment to the AHL’s Hershey Bears, including Ethen Frank, Alex Limoges, Riley Sutter, Chase Priskie, and Hardy Häman Aktell. Ethen Frank’s underwhelming preseason performance led to his potential move to the AHL, while Alex Limoges, Riley Sutter, Chase Priskie, and Hardy Häman Aktell also face potential reassignment. Notable names still on the Capitals’ roster include Jakub Vrana, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Andrew Cristall, and Henrik Rybinski, while competition for roster spots intensifies for players like Sonny Milano, Andrew Cristall, and Dylan McIlrath.

Hes not one step closer, hes earned a roster spot and is here to set an example for the next young wave of prospects in the organization. The caps front office have done a beautiful job in setting themselves up for success in the future, and a player like Cristall that's handling the bright lights is the exact caveat that the team needs
The only problem is I believe in order to get the full cap relief from Backy and Oshie on LTIR the Caps have to be right up to that amount. They only get the LTIR cap relief equal to the amount they are over the cap (I believe at the beginning of the season). So if they aren't as close as possible to the max amount as possible they don't get the best relief. Having him on the roster on an ELC won't help with that. However if they send Cristall down he has to spend the entire season in the WHL. Really is a tough situation. If they feel they need that cap space I believe they should send him down as I don't think he's quite ready yet.
Just watching the games and seeing Cristall’s poise has made me a believer…think it would be a retrograde to send him back to Kelowna. I don’t think there’s a question about his readiness for the NHL
I saw Crystal in the Caps Development Camp after the draft – he was as good as anyone.
Okay…. So my heart tells me I want Miro and Vrana to make it… logically though here’s my thought process if I was Dick Patrick. Miro is eligible to go to the AHL so you likely assign him to Hershey, then keeping Vrana and Cristall to compete for a while. Obviously Cristall super young but I think he’s proven that he’s a little to good to be in the CHL at this point it’s kinda just a big fish in a small pond scenario at least start him with the team if he struggles you send him back down. Vrana so far has shown he can be an impactful middle 6 depth scorer which the caps desperately needed last year was goals and speed. If Milano isn’t performing toexpectations slot Vrana/ Cristall in the 3 competing will likely bring out the best in all of them. Then when theirs injuries or other things you can call up Miroshinchenko. I don’t think Ethen Frank is ever gonna be an NHL player I know he’s fast but it’s almost like he’s too fast for his own skill set. As far as the defense go Ethan Bear has looked atrocious in the preseason constantly out of position turning over pucks rushing the play. I think it’s safe to say you can let him go anywhere but on the caps as far as Alexeyev and TVR they’ve both had ups and downs this preseason but obviously shown they can play last year. I think if McIlrath is seriously getting a better hockey game and not just trying to blow people up every shift and throw himself out of the play then give him a look. Everyone on Hershey says he’s the best Captain they’ve ever had and how much he does for a locker room as long as he’s not gonna be costing the team more then he benefits I think you give him a shot. Meaning TVR Alexeyev and him fight for the 6th and 7th spots
