Retaliating for clean hard hits is one of the most ridiculous things about modern NHL hockey. That really needs to be taken out of the game somehow. Even back in the 70's when hockey was way more violent in general, that wasn't a thing. It used to be that you retaliated for a dirty hit or an illegal play that wasn't called. Retaliating against a clean hard hit is against the spirit of the game and it makes the players involved, and the team and the coach, look like idiots.
