Truly hope the best for this guy. He’s a talented goalie but it’s apparent that he can’t get out of his own head.

    I’m rooting for Soup!

  2. You’d think being free from that Oilers contract/media as well as being closer to home would have put him in a good spot mentally.

I really expected this or worse last year when he couldn’t rebound in the AHL.

Just like Sammy, loved the person, wanted more out of the player. Hope they can both be well and continue their careers.

Take a guy that got to live and play in LA, then Toronto, and then put the weight of the world on him in, of all places Edmonton. Getting peppered by McJesus and McDrizzy every day in practice probably wasn’t good for his confidence either.

    That’s right, McDrizzy

Heard through some mutual friends that he has been struggling with alcoholism. Hopefully Soupy can bounce back.

Whatever it is, I hope he takes the time to get healthy.

Watching Jack have success as a starter with the leafs after being a backup for so long was great. He’s good guy and a fantastic teammate.

That’s honestly so sad, he seems like such a sweet dude

He struggled with the booze even while here in Toronto … so not surprised.

    Wish him all the best

🙁 Hope he’s alright, rooting for him 🙏

I love soupy. I hope he gets whatever help he needs and comes back.

Campbell was my favourite goalie in the Matthews Era, such a unique and genuine personality. He had one of the best comeback stories in recent times and seemed like such a great fit for the Leafs. It sucks that the last few years have been particularly difficult for him both professionally and seemingly personally. I’ll always be rooting for him, and chanting Souuuuuuup after every save he makes.

So sad to hear this news. I wish there was some way to let him know that we’re still cheering for him.

Oh man, this sucks. I hope he can get well.

I still love you soupy stay strong brother

Genuinely the nicest NHLer I’ve ever met after Johnny Bower – the personality you see on camera is him in real life. Caring, considerate and always wanting to help. Nothing but positive vibes.

It’s probably all of the red lobsters closing in the states.

For the sake of his mental health he should seriously consider retiring. He had an amazing run, he’s made more money than most people can dream of, he should think about himself and his family. Playing in the NHL isn’t everything.

He’s a pretty easy guy to root for. Hope he gets all the help he needs and comes back strong.

It really bothers him if he cannot perform to his (and his teams) expectations; I think that really took a toll on his mental health. Really hoping this helps him and he can move forward.

Super likeable dude. Hard as hell on himself and I bet the last couple years have not really helped him much. Hopefully he gets the help he needs.

Wishing Soup the best. Wears his heart on his sleeve.

TIL Jack Campbell was on the Red Wings….

  24. Chtholly13

good luck to him, fortunately he got his payday from the Oilers.

  25. Pianist-Educational

Really just lost his mojo going to Oilers from Leafs. Two different rosters and style of play, the later which bought out his weaknesses. Wish him well, as you need a sound mind and body to deal with pro hockey and post career life. Tough on friends and family too, hang in there Soup.
