Cole Perfetti signs Bridge with Winnipeg Jets

  1. Are the Jets suffering from the delusion that they have a chance to be a contender with this core at the cost of the franchise future. Is Chevy reluctant to tie up money long term because he thinks he needs to acquire pieces for a cup run. That along with the looming Ehlers, Connor, Vilardi, and Samberg contracts might be making him not want to tie up salary cap long term. Lately the methodolgy lately seems to be put off decisions until the last possible moment and keep the status quo – you have to start building for the futrue at some point. There has to be a tough down year with growing pains at some point for the team to take a leap forward, it just seems like management is just too scared of that scenario. It is either keep existing in the comfy middle and finish decent in the standings onyly to get bounced in round one of the playoffs or make a commitment to the future players that will be on the team for a decade and deal with the ups and downs but improve your overall chances of contending.

On signing Perfetti long term – If you view a player as a cornerstone piece you have to sign them to a long term contract for as long as they will sign with the cap going up it will look like a bargain in 2 years. If that is what the was being negotiated and rejected by the Jets you have to get that done and figure the rest out later.

  2. This isn’t a win. Especially when you factor in the Connor 8 year extension 😂.
Mason Appleton and or Iafallo can hit the bricks anytime. Chibrikov is better than either at a fraction of cost.
