Inside Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch, where you can surf 100 miles inland — for $10,000 | ESPN Photo

The Kelly Slater Wave Company Surf Ranch, also known as Slater’s wave, is a 20-acre surfing amusement park in Lemoore, California, amid the farmland of the state’s Central Valley. It’s not the first man-made wave park, but it’s the most powerful: The wave reaches speeds of 20 mph and heights of 8 feet, making it a capable host for competitions like the World Surf League Championship Tour. In time, controlled environments like Slater’s wave may become the norm for surfing competitions.

Customers pay $10,000 to surf for an hour, so it’s no surprise that the Surf Ranch boasts a celebrity clientele: Chris Hemsworth, Drew Brees, Tony Hawk, Shaun White, and Eddie Vedder have all caught waves there.

  1. A ride lasts for 45-60 seconds.
It takes 4 minutes for the water to reset.

If each hour costs $10,000, and there are about 12 to 13 waves in an hour, the cost per wave would be approximately $10,000 / 12.63 ≈ $791.60.

  2. Gag me!! As a former old school surfer who abandoned the xenophobic sport to become a rock climber, to me these fake waves made for the elitists is worse than rock gym climbers who have never ventured on to real rock where holds and moves are not planned out for you.

    Question to dollar-using people/english-spoken people :
I live in Europe, I pay in Euros.
For me, 10€ can be written 10,000€, which means 10 euros and 0 cents. (the coma separates euros from cents).
My question : The cost for one-hour seesion at Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch costs $10,000.
Does $10,000 mean 10 dollars, like the number after 9 dollars and 999 cents (plus 001 cents)
It can't be be 10 thousand dollars, right ?
    Thanks in advance ?

  4. 500 USD a wave, what a joke, Slater should be ashamed at making surfing an elitist activity. 30M is an even bigger joke. He could have built that for 5M in Asia and made surfing accessible and a great holiday. Who wants to go to a dessert to pay a fortune to surf a fake wave. Insane. Sounds like a business investor using Slaters name perhaps, or has Slater sold out ?

  5. 10k dang dude, seems like something for rich people to learn how to surf. Or the kids of rich people 😂

  6. As the saying goes, rich people live like they are poor. Poor people live like they are rich. Just because you can put this on your credit card doesn't mean you have the money to really afford it. So when you say this is for the wealthy, what do you mean?? 😅

  7. Scam. There’s literally NOTHING there except this surf ranch. I drive up close to there about 4 times a year to visit my fam and for 10k you’re getting nothing

  8. yeah why the cost? Is it only 5 people a year ride and it cost $50k a year to operate? Things are crazy expensize. Money has no real value anymore.
