  1. Goaltending was one of the difference makers in this game. Rodrigue let in 4 goals above expected and was beaten clean a few times, whereas Gru was solid throughout.

I also liked the Kraken’s discipline through the entire game, keeping the front of net defended without taking penalties and mostly keeping the Oilers to the outside.

A very very solid and replicable effort, though could run into trouble against better goaltending. Still need to work on playmaking, getting to the net, and especially the PP to better handle that.

  2. Wright's backwards under-the-pads goal was a chef's kiss. I just managed to see it squeak in on the initial play and couldn't believe my eyes. Seeing it on replay a half-dozen more times was no less surreal. Although, every time I've caught myself thinking about it since the game ended I've tried to manage my expectations for his season. It's hard not to be excited for a player that makes a goal look effortless, but I want to be realistic given that this is his rookie season. On another note, it was refreshing to see him setup next to the net and be ready for an opportunity. We need more players around the net more often.

The cap situation is frustrating. I have a soft spot for Gourde and Tanev since they've been with the Kraken from day one. I've heard solid arguments that Winterton is superior to Tanev and it's difficult to disagree. Then Tanev gives everything he's got against Edmonton, including his ankle on the blocked shot, and it's frustrating to think he might not stay in Seattle. It seems we might have gotten the coach he needs when he might be on his way out. Whatever Francis does we're going to be wondering what might have been if we'd kept player X over player Y. It's a roll of the dice since we can't know what the best stop-gap is.
