Worth pointing out this was the 60s. A good 7 years before the Endangered Species Act.

  2. The best part of the whole story is that after he died they replaced him with another live penguin named Re-Pete.

I think it’s better we keep this a secret between us

I remember Errey talking about this on a broadcast years ago.

He ended the story “that penguin’s dead now”.

Does anyone else remember this? Lol

Poor little guy, hope he’s getting all the fish he wants in Penguin Heaven. I remember when my partner came across this story and started live reacting to it in front of me. I didn’t have the heart to tell her how it ended.

When they realized he was a warm weather penguin from South America. 💀

Was t it because he was a South African penguin not an artic penguin who wasn’t use to the cold. So that’s why he got pneumonia and died?

This would be a hit over at r/nhlcirclejerk

“He wasn’t kept at a proper temp” is glossing over it. They thought he was an arctic penguin and he was an African or South American penguin. First time the poor thing saw ice was when he walked out on the rink for the first time…

Someone out there has him. It’s the holy grail of Penguins collectibles.
