I think teams have to be really careful naming kids as captains. Chicago made a smart move by handing that responsibility to Foligno instead of the obvious choice Bedard. I think if the young player is the best player on your team/the most talented/hardworking and vocal (like a Connor McDavid) then yes, they should be the "captain" as even older guys will follow that kind of example (just like if you have a high school manager at McDonald's or a kid fresh out of uni as your boss as an older person).
But I think the glimpse into the Prime Series with Quinn Hughes (another young player like Suzuki who's very good, part of the core, but not vocal) I don't think the captaincy is something you learn on the job as it adds pressure. I think if it was a case of "this guy was the captain in all but name so we gave him the "C" again that's different.
Anyways, it's notable that the Leafs have a captain with Mexican heritage and the Habs now have one with a Japanese background. I think that serve as inspiration for a generation of kids like having a Swede (Sundin) and a Fin (Koviu) as captains of the two most historic franchises in the game.
