Igor Shesterkin has reportedly rejected an 8-year, $88M contract offer from the Rangers which is upsetting Rangers fans wondering if they’ll shell out the money to keep Shesterkin on the team.

  1. On the ice longer than any other player, can make or break a game single handily. The most equipment costs growing up. Yeah give them their money. Who's more valuable to a team, an awesome forward, defensemen or goalie.

  2. Rangers should trade him asap; as a Habs fan, having Price as our ‘franchise’ player was a terrible mistake . Having that much money locked on a goalie doesn’t make a team competitive. Some people will argue that Bobrovsky won the Panthers a cup, but in all honesty, the Panthers won because they were a very well built team upfront. Look at the last 30 years of Stanley cup winners : 95% of goalies on these teams were not franchise players at all; you just need an ‘above average’ goalie on a hot streak to win the cup. Put your money on strong leadership, a solid physical top 4 D, and talent upfront.

  3. A big theme for the Rangers the last bunch of years has been their dependence on Igor and the power play. That could only get worse in the next couple of years with Igor making $12M and Kreider, Mika, Trocheck, and Panarin all entering their mid 30’s.

  4. Just showing why a cap system is bad for almost everyone. Bad for the game, bad for fans of their teams and bad for the players. The only ones it's not bad for, is the ownership, who are rich billionaires. Abolish the cap system and let players get what they can and allow teams to spend what they want and maybe actually be able to keep some of the great players they draft and develop.

  5. I have never understood players hamstringing their team by trying to squeeze every penny they can out of it.

Like, you need teammates to win.

  6. I'm frankly sick of the way players operate these days…maybe they always did and I just didn't notice…but players almost never take less. This is why I have such mad respect for Crosby. Guy always took less than what he was worth to help the team. The cups speak for themselves. Edmonton, Colorado, new York… they're all in trouble because their players demand max dollars. It's sad.

  7. ive been saying this since i understood player contracts as a kid, if i was a top pro athlete i would take a middle of the road contract to insure that my team could spend more money to win a cup. i never understood the greed when we are talking about millions of dollars. there are guys getting paid huge contracts and wondering why they are on shit teams with out a deep playoff run in them.

  8. Stop watching professional sports. These prices are ridiculous. The players don't care about the team winning. They care about their pocket book. It is not like it was in the 70s and 80s. Stop watching.

  9. My opinion if Igor wants to genuinely win he will stay for what he gets or we give him 1 other option and that’s to send him to a trash organization so that he can see what it’s like to never win a cup because he was to greedy and needed an extra million on top of his 11m a year.

  10. Shesty said, "nah y'all not about to Lundqvist me and my whole career unless I get the bag."

  11. Let him play out the season, then let him walk. Unless someone makes an offer you can't refuse, then I say move him, and run with Quick and Garand.

  12. Typically when we see a big number that was decline, the real contract end up just a little bit higher than that, like Swayman signing for 8.25M$ instead of 8M$. Igor could totally end up signing for 11.5M$ instead of 11M$.
