Macklin Celebrini Delivers In His NHL Debut, But San Jose Sharks Snafus Cost Them Their First Win

Macklin Celebrini delivers in his NHL debut, but the San Jose Sharks remain the Sharks as they lose 5-4 in OT to the St. Louis Blues. Start with Celebrini’s NHL debut as he scores a goal and an assist and looks the part in his first game. Also, discuss Will Smith’s debut and how he has built off his preseason and improved with every performance. Then, examine the Sharks showing life in the second period after being outplayed in the first and why this is different than what we’ve seen from the team in recent years. Also, review Ryan Warsofsky’s decisions in the third period to try and defend a lead with veterans instead of trying to spark the offense. Finally, explore the analytics of the game: how the forward lines performed, which defenseman played the most, and Mackenzie Blackwood’s night

  1. The Sharks didn't come out for the 3 stars skate. I think that was telling. No need to celebrate when you lose.

  2. The Sharks are learning. The team last year would of folded after the start they had in the 1st but they responded with a dominate 2nd period. Then they got complacent in the third. I'd expect them to figure out how to close out games with more experience.

  3. That was the loudest I've heard the Tank since the playoffs. Great atmosphere.

The great Pete Stemkowski always said that the 3 goal lead is the most dangerous in hockey

  4. Smith needs to build his confidence way to many mistakes in the neutral Ceci is great we need more like him in our D core

  5. Blackwood inconsistent, again.

Defense also being a giant letdown, again. Thrun needs more dev time and Benning is an AHLer at this point. I hope that Grier has his eyes on Liljegren in TOR as they are rumored to move him.

Rough night for Goose, 4th line is not his calling. He’s going to struggle in that spot.

The good, a sold out arena but many no shows which is mildly infuriating, f’n ticket resellers. Saturday is sold out as well.

Celebrini doing what you would expect a 1st ovr should do. Smith is going to need some time to adjust, he started slow last year in college.

5-4 OTL is what I’m hoping to see more of this season, not necessarily losses but tighter games that could go either way.

  6. Tank was loud last night , when Mac scored that place erupted. Yes the loss in OT wasn't fun but it hurts less than a 10-1 loss.

  7. Tank was loud! Energy was right!! I don’t have expectations for wins but for team bonding and growth, competitive drive, and future playoff runs, I have HOPE. The future is TEAL, Go Sharks!

  8. This season is simply about learning, growth, and overall nurturing. The vibes and certain wins will be for the moral victories 💯. Not sweatin it

  9. I couldn’t watch the entire game, I only caught the second half of the first period and little else, but from what I saw, the Sharks had a lot of the puck, regardless of being outshot, I thought we looked good. Obviously, I think the beginning of the 1st was when we got outshot bad bc I saw the shots were like 14-3, but very positive signs imo

  10. For as bad as the result was, i kinda liked de defense play from Wallman, Ceci, Rutta and Ferraro. The Thrun-Benning pairing is a big problem though.

Benning can’t be on the team, and Thrun is still learning

  11. Haven’t seen the tank that full in a long time. Probably the least bad I felt after a loss

  12. I agree to an extent. The defense failed us. But the offense was awesome. We need some work. But theirs 81 more Sharks games to look forward too!!
