Shootouts are kind of a lottery anyway …
I tuned in during the half of the second – I wasn’t overly impressed by the energy of the team and the willing to impose our game as we did last year.
Again, not the time to overreact, it’s too early – lots of changes happened (it’s a different team and the chemistry isn’t there yet I suppose).
Let’s see, by the American Thanksgiving we will have a better view on where we are at.

  2. intelligentx5

Man, I fucking miss the Petey that could take over a game and put up 5 points.

  3. Mysterious-Drummer74

I’m not sure I’m sold on the preemptive benching of Sprong and Raty. If you can’t be trusted to play in a close game in game 2 of 82 is there any chance they are going to be trusted to play at all in the playoffs?

Lines clearly aren’t fully gelling together yet (not a big deal), but throwing the lines in a blender the moment it gets close isn’t going to help that.

  4. Obvious-Property-236

Look, when Demko is on his game he used to steal games when we didn’t have the best of D.

    When Demko wasn’t, we lost.

We have neither Demko, or the best D core when last year we had both.

    Results show it.

  5. CJK_420

    Juulsen Desharnais our 2nd n 3rd RD. Oh boy…

  6. johnnyzunami

Tell Pettersson his Electric Scooter privileges are revoked until he scores a goal!

  7. DishwasherFromSurrey

I think I need a break from this sub. I can’t believe all the negativity and over reactions. Guess it’s what happens when there are finally expectations around the team

  8. DustlandFairytale_

I hate the shootout with a fiery passion. We fucking suck at them.

Lankinen was great. I thought Boes played well too. He created a lot of chances. Quinn is always good.

  9. carry-on_replacement

I’d say we did as best we could playing with 5D (hope Mysies is ok) and Hughes 31 minutes a night (he was gassed in OT).

Still, while Petey was at least inoffensive last game, this game he was pretty obviously brutal. He’s gotta shoot more. Why is it that his first instinct on the power play to go behind the net and not to the slot where he can shoot? Why is it that he weaves around the blue line like he’s a defenseman on 3 on 3. Sprong’s also gotta get off Petey’s wing too, he’s becoming a liability.

Miller-Boeser weren’t much better honestly. The top 6 is a mess and the team is held down by Hughes-Hronek and the bottom 6

  10. Darknessforall

I don’t want to hate on him but Petey come on! Pasta, Barkov and Echiel all make less than him. Panarin makes the same and Mackinnion only makes 1 million more. These are all team defining players. Petey is not that for us at all right now and that contract was a mistake.

  11. shadownet97

Who’s the next d-man up if Myers is out for a few games?

  12. cointalkz

Is it possible Petterson only flourished under Boudreau babying him? Did we get scammed?

  13. ModernArgonauts

I swear the Flyers have had our number since last year. Every-time we play them its gross to watch. Everything slows down, maybe that’s just Torts’ hockey.

Oh well, trying not to get too bummed out, its only two games into the season, but guys need to lock in during the second and third periods, everyone needs to buy into Toch’s system or it won’t work.

Huge props to Lanky, he looked fantastic, really happy we picked him up.

PSA: for all you folks who had sportsnet outages, you can always tune into the game at Sportsnet 650.

  14. kristianhay

Not great, but it could be worse. I think the Heinen on the top line experiment should probably end for the time being. Our lines felt so much more dynamic when Garly and Hog were bumped into the top 6 towards the end of the game. I look forward to Joshua coming back as well.

2 games, 2 points. Not the worst but would like to see some more fire in the boys.

  15. AccomplishedAd4995

we got 2/4 points im just gonna pretend we won a game

  16. International_Cut_69

Just a very meh game overall. Nothing overly good, nothing overly bad, just meh.

  17. ProtoMan3

The rational fan in me doesn’t want to panic quite yet because it’s only early October, but with what this team has put me through I am very cynical about making sure they get their shit together, because otherwise it’s another frustrating year

  18. gbsguitarboy

Excellent cycling and pressure, not enough finish, only got 25 shots out of a lot of zone pressure. Going to have a lot of OTL’s that way. However seems (hopefully) teachable and fixable. Go Canucks GO!

  19. RepulsiveHumanShell

can i have rookie petey back please? at least he was breaking ankles and shooting. no idea how this is the same player

  20. LordGlompus

Bummer. Couldn’t keep the same pressure up, philly defense and goalie were on it tonite. Onto Tampa, get the first season win boys!

  21. SourGrapesFTW

I have no sympathy left for the guy that demanded 11.6 million/year. You have to be a difference maker if you want that kind of money.

Petey is looking like Bambi out there. Freakin embarrassing.

  22. gonuxgo

Only 2 games in, the sky isn’t falling

Having said that, it is very frustrating watching Pettersson continue not to produce. He can have as many pretty offside entries as he wants, I just want the dude to help the team win

  23. DietFoods

Petey can’t seem to play structured hockey. Every time he’s had good seasons for us its been with loose goosey style hockey.

     * Loose with Green: good Petey

     * Structured with green: bad petey

     * Loose with Boudreau: great petey

     * Structured with toch: bad petey

  24. KingVikram

Pettersson took three tumbles on one shift because he’s a weakling and has been a bum, 🤷🏽‍♂️.

  25. ShawnnyCanuck

I’m not mad just disappointed 🙁

  26. opinemine

0.500 after two games and this sub is already toxic af.

Our fans are the worst ever.

  27. Overclocked11

Not an incredible game by any means, but Lankinen was a bright light for sure.

I’m confident the likes of Boes, Petey, Miller and Huggy will get it going as they settle in to the season. Plus, once Joshua and Demko come back we’ll be in great shape.

    On to Tampa!

  28. KingVikram

Hey! All I care about is how many scoots Petey goes for in a week, uwu.

  29. sMc-cMs

    For anyone freaking out, relax.

We have 7 new players in the lineup and we’re trying to change the style of hockey we play.

    That doesn’t happen right away.

Especially not when you’re playing with 5 Dmen, without one of the top 3 goalies in the league and missing one of your best forwads (Joshua).

    It’s going to take time.

If you want to learn more, go check out the Canucks talk segment where they get into this.

  30. fastcurrency88

No need to panic about the team. Still very early and so many new bodies brought into the lineup. Will take some time to gel. Only thing I’m concerned about is Petey looks exactly the same from the end of last year. Was expecting him to start out the year looking a little different.

  31. Intensemarkgormley

Florida road trip now…. it’s not panic time but this could turn into a bad start pretty fast. I know it’s 2/4 points but need more than than 2 OTLs blowing third period leads, I understand why a lot of people are frustrated.

  32. jackfrench9

Hockey can rail you so quickly. One bad loss turns into two. A few more and then you’re staring down the barrel of five games without a win. Your season can be gone before it’s even begun.

Really hoping Tocchet can whip the boys into action. Preferably in game 3.

  33. Spatrico123

didn’t catch it, did they play well? I’m assuming a third period collapse, did we look dangerous at any point?

  34. Certain_Pickle896

Real question. Do you guys think Pettersson stays a Canuck by the end of the season?

  35. Ohhh boy. Lots of problems with this one.

The lack of finishing tonight was very disappointing. Guys leaving their checks, passes not being completed, poor finishing, the power play were the major ones for me. Not to mention the absolute ass shootout attempts.

Pettersson is a concern for me as well, I feel like I haven’t seen him actually take over a game like he used to in what, 40 to 50 games?

We can sit here and talk about how it’s still early in the season or whatever, but it’s always early in the season until it’s not. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be winning. Some of these lines have new players sure, namely the Pettersson line is a line composed of players that have never played with each other, but the powerplay has plenty of players who should be completely familiar.

We have seen the consequences ourselves over the past decade on what a slow start means. I don’t want to go into the end of the year playing catch up with the league, and we saw how it affected Edmonton. Either way, I hope the team steps up soon because I felt like the effort level was just pathetic tonight. I just wanna watch exciting hockey again

  36. KoreanCanuck28

Didn’t think the Canucks played all that bad tonight. Flyers played the classic Torts game and hung in there with us.

I thought it was interesting that Tocchet had Sprong glued to the bench for most of the 3rd, he doesn’t trust Sprong in tight games yet.

I was at the game, and I found it fascinating that you can hear this quiet, but nervous buzz whenever Petey touched the puck. He just needs to score one and get the monkey off of his back at this point.

  37. isitAliens

Thought Forbert stood out positively at least

  38. sneezlo

Who the fuck dictates shootout strategy to these bums. Bunch of jokers. The one new guy they put out comes in with speed and scored a nice goal, shout-out DeBrusk, and the rest of them dilly dally and don’t even generate a look. Garland at least was a flub rather than nothing

  39. Alextryingforgrate

Kinda felt like Travis green hockey out there just letting off the gas in the second half. OT was just painfull. Let’s see what the rest of the season brings.

  40. Disastrous-Grade839

What is the Canucks record in the shootout in the Tocchet era? I swear it feels like they’ve won maybe 1 shootout in the past couple years.

  41. AshiswaifuRZT

Yall being optimistic about this shit are stupid

  42. seyar17

Really disgraceful performance. This team is in a bad spot without Demko, and our D core has regressed since last year, which makes us miss him more. Really dreading Desharnais coming back in. What can we say about Petey, not trying to be a hater but he simply just doesn’t have it. What a contract we have on our hands. Really hope he gets going.
