I have a petition started to hopefully end media blackouts in nhl

I'm tired of not being able to stream my team due to media blackouts when paying for subscriptions, the digital era needs to bring the NHL up to date
If anyone wants to take a minute to sign the petition I made that would be amazing

  1. Signed. Fuck Gary Bettman

And fuck the Hawks while we’re at it

  2. ElephantRedCar91

the nhl’s response- “fuck you. pay me”

  3. Peridot_Ghost

We seriously need to raise awareness of this bs corruption. It’s as spiteful as it is childish.

  4. Nhansen94

lol. You really think the NHL gives a single damn about your petition? Good luck with that.

  5. JaxBoltsGirl

Signed. I hate having to go through hops just to watch a game when I don’t live close enough to go to the game without a hotel stay but I’m considered close enough to be in the blackout region.

They do not care. These are multi million and billion dollar deals that cause the blackouts. Your petition won’t do anything. You’re better off finding alternatives than wasting time with a petition that won’t fix anything.

  7. NoDuck1754

The contracts involved in broadcasting are far too large, complicated, and regional to be interrupted by a petition.

  8. jessicajewls

Great idea and good for you. Bit your wasting your time

The contracts won’t last forever and as we’re moving further and further away from the old style of watching things, the more chance we have of actually changing the system

    Illegal TV. Problem solved.

Others can profit at the NHL’s own stupid mistakes and greed. Fuck em.

Here in WA you can now stream the Kraken games on an Amazon prime membership.

I’m with you but it wouldn’t matter if you got every single NHL fan in the world to sign this, it’s not happening as long as cable networks have exclusive contracts.

This seems like such an easy win for a politician to score some points. Who, aside from rich owner lobbying firms, are going to argue in favor of blackouts?

The whole premise is so dated these days. Who sits around the house and says, oh man, the game isn’t going to be on TV tonight, so I better get down to the stadium to go in person. People don’t go to games because they’ve got other shit going on, not because they know they can watch the game on TV instead.

I understand theres tv deals based region but if theres no team in some city why even blacked them out, isnt it better if team have fans from another state

  15. mattcojo2

    Blackouts do make sense.

The problem is that the system that exists now wasn’t what it was even 10 years ago, with how many people cut the cable.

Media organizations need to find better ways to allow people to watch their teams.

When the NHL got rid of having all the games, with all the options on their own site, and sold (Canadian) rights to SN, who completely fucked it up made it terrible and shitty I took that as a sign they did not want my money anymore.

The NHL had me as a loyal paying customer and told me to go fuck myself, so fuck them. VPN and a pirate ship for me.

  17. Red-Leader117

Lol a petition, yeah that’ll work!

  18. matnerlander

Only way to petition is with your wallet. If more of us sailed the seas and they lost money it might instigate change. But buying a package THEN complaining about what it includes is not gonna do a damn thing.

  19. Spider-Nutz

Dbacks had a streaming option this year. 100 bucks for the whole season. I got a student discount so I only paid 60 bucks. So fuckin worth it

  20. Aichetoowhoa

100%. It would only benefit the NHL. Look what happened to the NFL when they stopped the blackout nonsense

  21. Negative-Giraffe-197

Fire Bettman . Pretty much all problems solved
The on that that totally passed me off was Nashville wouldn’t sell us tickets to a game because we didn’t live in Tennessee. How freaking
    stupid is that?

  22. KanataRef

It’s not really Bettman’s fault (queue downvotes). At least in Canada, every team has their area for television rights. The Sens have an agreement with Montreal to be able to show each other’s team in the other’s area. Toronto would not allow it, so of course Ottawa then blocks TML games in our area. It’s most likely your team’s owner that causes the problem.

_“If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate’s service is more valuable.”_

These really make no sense. Blue vs Vega’s yesterday in Vegas. My brother is St Louis couldn’t watch on ESPN because it was blacked out. He could watch on Bally sports. How does this make any sense. It’s an away game and he’s a paying subscriber. What is a blackout accomplishing for an away game?

  25. Top_Tumbleweed

If enough of us stop paying for this shit it will be 10,000x more effective than a petition.

    I’m doing my part 👍

  26. ClosPins

After this works, we’ll have to start a petition to have Elon Musk pay me $20b! And, after that, a petition so that Elon Musk and Donald Trump aren’t allowed to be selfish assholes anymore! Ooh, and we better add one that says Steven Seagal has to stop acting forever!

  27. How would teams retaining their own streaming rights end blackouts? They already have their own local rights, and that’s literally what causes most blackouts.

  28. GroundbreakingCow775

This isn’t too Arghd to deal with
