I’m not a Dustin Schwartz apologist, and I realize that weee only two games into a new season, but at what point do we come to the realization that Skinner is not a quality starting goalie?? Sure it makes for a great story of local kid makes good and plays for his home team but I for one have little faith that skinner can be that shutdown goalie that this team been searching for for so many years.
Whether you like Dustin Schwartz or not, whether you think he's the problem or not, he's been the goalie coach what, 10+ years now? Time for a new viewpoint.
I'm surprised Schwartz didn't get fired along with the rest of the coaching staff last year. What would be an interesting stat is get the number of games the Oilers have lost, over the past few seasons, where they outshot the opponents.
this is not about local boy or who we 'love'. I also love my son, and he can't be in the goal of the Oilers. The Oilers franchise needs a goalie that we don't need to ride on prayers to make the playoffs, let alone to navigate through the playoffs. I don't trust not even an 'elevated' Skinner, to be our 'wall' in the playoffs. We want a goalie whose "Tuesday morning' level before he had coffee is at Ullmark or Helleybuck level, then we can claim the cup 3 times in the next 5 years. As it stands, we are beetween hope and despair, despite talented Offense.
For the life f me I still do not understand how that useless Goalie coach is still with our team. He is an absolute failure and should be no where near and of our goalies. He must have something on Daryl Kates, it's the only reason I could imagine why he's still around.
Absolutely needed a new goalie coach years ago, a lot of decent goalies gone thru………they cannot be all bad! What does he know about kaetz that keeps him employed?!

Schwartz needs to be replaced, long ago!
Personally, I blame the fans and media for putting too much pressure on the team…. wouldn't surprise if McDavid isn't here next year.

Fun fact about Mike Smith being the Oilers best goalie over several seasons: He hired his own goalie coach when he was playing for them.
