Post-Game Reaction: Edmonton Oilers 1, Calgary Flames 4

The Edmonton Oilers dropped their third straight match to begin the 2024-25 NHL regular season after falling to the Calgary Flames 4-1 in the Battle of Alberta at Rogers Place on Sunday night. Jeff Skinner scored his first goal as an Oiler, assisted by Connor McDavid, but it was the only offense the team could find and count on the scoreboard. Two coaches challenges derailed the teams’ momentum and they are now 0-3-0. #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. We played another bad 2 periods.

The refs were putrid tonight but man. Bad calls happen, we can’t let that deflate us

  2. Nurse on that third goal was one of the most inexcusable plays I’ve seen from him all year, this entire team besides the bottom six cheats the game from an effort standpoint and this isn’t the NBA where you can get away without trying too hard. When you cheat the game in hockey you typically lose.

  3. You need about 43 wins with 5-7 OTLs to make the playoffs. I dont know how long until they wake up. But if this takes 10. 15. Maybe 20 games of them going like 4-14-2. I just don't know how they bounce back. I know they did it last year. But this team's so much older. And theyd have to go 39-19-5 run to make the playoffs. I know this teams good and what they are capable of. But like last year if they didn't go on a historical almost record breaking winning streak they aren't making the post season. It's the same thing it's looking like this year. And that's just not a good expectation to have.

  4. Re: the non-response to Skinner getting hacked. That reminds me of the 2011 Canucks. They relied on the getting the calls and going on the power play. Eventually, the refs got sick of it.

  5. fine – take the disallowed goal…. Oilers lose 4-2. Feel better? The last few years the Oilers were gifted 5 or 6 penalty opportunities, but nobody cried then. Oiler fans leaking tears left, right and center. "Reffing sucks!!", the Oiler fan favorite go to chant

  6. I'm hoping for 0-10. That way I want to see the arena nice and empty with like two fans and the entire building of like 18,000 seats all vacant.

  7. Skinner scoring got me 25 points from tims now I can get a free ice cap lol – Canucks fan

  8. The sun will rise tomorrow Oilers fans! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and hopefully the team finds a way to rebound and beat the Flyers on Tuesday! 💜

  9. I want this year to end. I’m done being an Oilers fan. I hate this team more and more every day. This team got worse in the offseason and are it feels to me they are now eliminated from playoffs already 3 games in. I’m so frustrated and tired of this. Changes got to happen immediately.

  10. I've missed all 3 of the first games so far due to extenuating circumstances and can't help feel partly responsible for this bad luck, but I promise I'll catch the next one boys.

  11. Being an Oilers fan is one of the most frustrating things a person can do with their life. The ups and downs are slowly killing me

  12. nurse had 5 block shots and 3 sog tonight. give the guy a little bit of credit

  13. it doesn't take alot to bruise their huge egos. Just don't see them hitting, nurse would rather try to take the puck away than clear the front of his own net. I have no sympathy for them, they're getting paid huge money for substandard production. I think they'll have to trade mcd or drai to attain the players they need to win a cup. And throw nurse into the package, he's nfg. Sorry, hard to find any positives. 😡

  14. All this means is betting on the oilers to win the cuo got a slightly better payout. Last year, when they lost 3 in a row rhey won 8 and 16 in a row, 79 games left, lets not panick now…

  15. flames fan here, after watching vladars post game interview he admits he thought the GI disallowed goal was actually fine in his opinion (which is reflected by his on ice actions, he didnt protest or ask for a review from the refs, classic goalie routine after), our coach also mentioned he was hesitant but pulled the trigger because of the confidence from the video review team. Pretty wack call either way considering last season had dozens of similar goals that were fine.
League doing classic league things and finding new rules to nitpick every season for whatever reason

  16. I know the Austin Hockey man, somewhere between the 8:40 and 9:00 marks of the video, claimed this Oiler regular season had started to have striking similarities to that of 2017-18. This regular season has had striking similarities to how the Habs started that 2021–22 season of theirs.

  17. As a flames fan this is a great little bit of fun to start the season, but the division will be flipped soon enough. It’s not the end of the world. Edmonton will get it together and make the playoffs without question and the Flames will more than likely miss.

If they want to call that goalie interference then they better call that consistently the entire year. I’m sick of the flip flopping of what they’ll call or not even when it benefits us.

  18. Oilers is my 2nd favorite team, next to the jets…the team is a sleeping giant for now but wins will come hopefully soon! GOG!

  19. One would think, after last season, the Oilers would have used the pre season to find their identity. Like every other NHL team. This is not the same roster and the team is not as fast as last years Oilers. The forwards will have to support the Defensemen better and more consistently than last year. Too bad, I understand Ceci, Broberg and Holloway were all available this past off season.
