[Scott Wheeler] We shouldn’t be having a “will (Hutson) become one of the NHL’s top offensive defensemen?” conversation. He already is. He’s there. His ceiling will be determined by his growth defensively. Chances are he’s already more gifted offensively than the D running your favourite team’s PP.

Man, this kid is getting a lot of praise from all over the place..
Well that “D running my favourite team’s PP” is Mike Matheson, and I can guaranfuckingtee Hutson is already more offensively gifted, and arguably already more defensively competent.
At this point I’m just calling whatever unit Hutson is on our 1st Power Play unit, despite whoever is on the other unit.

I’ve never seen anything like that guy. Granted, I haven’t watched McD, Hughes and Makar that much, but I’ve never seen anything like Hutson.
He’s a video game cheat. There’s hockey, then there’s hockey with Fast Lane. Two completely different sports. It feels like I’m watching a Ronaldinho compilation every time this kid has the puck on his stick. Never seen anything like this.
Subban? He was electric and freaking exciting. Good for at least a highlight play every game. Could hit, skate, agitate, shoot, pass, celebrate like almost nobody else. When he’d get on his horse… damn!
But he was also a human being. If he got a dead puck in his defensive zone with no obvious play, he’d d-to-d it, walk it up to the red line and safely ice it or chip it.
This young man named Lane Hutson though… he obeys neither the laws of man nor the laws of God. Bouncy puck in the defensive zone in his offside corner? Easy. Fakes a backhand clear, corrals it, fakes a d-to-d, skates sideways like a Jamaican blue crab through the neutral zone, headfakes three hall of famers, does 60 little hand tweaks/second, single leg inside edge brakes at the dots, bounces it off the boards, spins and dishes a medium-rare dry aged wagyu rib eye to Anderson alone in front of the net. Who fumbles it, restoring order in the universe.
He should quarterback the 1PP. Slaf and Cole find slots in and around the net to finish his plays.
He’s just so much fun to watch and he’s only going to get better the more games he plays. It’s an exciting time to be a Habs fan that’s for sure, plus our prospect pool these days is DEEP.
Dude I think Hutson is gonna be the man but damn let’s tap the brakes here and let him grow into it. It’s been 5 games
As an unapologetically smug bastard, I find it incredibly gratifying to see the hockey world clamouring to jump on the Lane Train. So many times I sung his praises, citing his games against Detroit as proof that he was ready for the NHL, and so many times someone would chime in with a, “Yeah, well Poehling scored 4 goals in his first game and we all know how that turned out…”
Somehow, I’m not seeing Poehling’s name coming up in this conversation much anymore. 😜
He gets SO much praise, from every single analyst from all teams.. at this point i feel like it’s a concerted effort to put even more pressure on him and have him implode before he truly reaches his potential lol
