The Dallas Stars take their first loss of the season at the hands of the Washington Capitals by a final score of 3-2 on Thursday night. Colin Blackwell scored his first goal of the season shorthanded for the Stars, but Dallas struggled to find their game for much of the contest as the Capitals pushed back for the win. Joey breaks down everything from Thursday’s game including a power play that continues too struggle to begin the season. We then move on to positive news, Jake Oettinger has been extended! 2 long distance shots that go in kinda cooked us. Gotta clear bodies in front a bit better and Casey needs to save at least one of those.
When can we expect Mavrik to do Mavrik stuff? I’m looking for some differentiation.
My opinions on this game were that we scored our first goal with our forwards actively screening the goalie. Robertson scored a goal the way I want him to score. Roope’s mitts are silky, He controlled some crazy passes, Desmith is overshooting his power slides. So many times he slid right out of the net being way too explosive. Now, Lunqvst is looking more like due to his size he has to reach in more than others that is causing penalties. Stankoven’s shot still seems very weak. Borque looks overly scared to play his own game. Dadonov looks like he’s really slowed down this year compared to last year.
I may be being hyper critical, but everyone’s faults are really sticking out right now.
Going to the game tomorrow night. Hoping they can pick it back up.

Would never pay anybody that much for that long. Plus, we’ve only seen really one good playoff series from him. I’m not saying he’s bad but I don’t know about that contract I hope Nill hasn’t screwed up again like he did with Jamie and Tyler.
Jamie benn is beyond washed up and shouldnt be on any powerplay let alone the top unit. He doesnt have the ability to play fast, he isnt a good playmaker, he isnt a good shooter, why the fuck do they keep putting him in there? There strategy is terrible. They clearly want tips but if there is no shooting lanes you're not even able to get a chance to tip. Why would they wait ten games its the same powerplay that didnt work last year. Id put stankoven in benns spot. He at least plays like he wants to win
I agree with you Joey. PP has got to show up. It’s been nonexistent. No excuses. We have got to get better. If the PP chipped in at all, we’d still have a zero in the loss column. They have to change up what they’ve been trying. For the past 2 years the PP. has been awful. Terrible entries, no sustained offensive zone time. One and done. Switch up the whole formula. Whatever happened to the old dump and chase method? Idk? We can’t be a cup contender with a shit PP. Can’t be. We have to improve. Have to.
Joey, you took the words right out of my mouth in regards to that PowerPlay we had with three minutes left. That was their time for redemption and to silence all the haters and again for the 16th time they couldn’t capitalize. Here are my thoughts Dadanov has contributed nothing and stales every line he is on. JAIME other than his one goal looks lost and is slowing down the young guys. Move Sam to the second line with mush and Dutch move Blackwell to the third line with the wonder kids. move Benn and dadanov to 4th and take him off the 2nd PP. put steel on it.
To tell you the truth, they didn't play bad, but we're discombobulated in the 2nd, that same period that the Stars had been the best team so far this year in. They were tired aswell and fatigue set in. That alone will cause mental errors. As far as Robo, he has been figured out by the league. He has to work harder to get those shots through and stop running himself out of position.
I really dont agree with Deboer saying we need to wait 10 games before we freak out about the PP. This issue goes back to the playoffs last year, cant score on the PP when it actually matters. Yeah i know the regular season PP has been decent but i think thats just because with our talent we can bruteforce goals but when it actually matters teams shut us down. Unfortunately Deboer will never strip Spott of duties or fire him but i remember Vegas fans complaining about Spott way back when, idk how sharks fans felt about Spott tho. Id at least like to see some changes like stealing other teams plays/set ups or shuffling the guys around
