I can’t believe it finally happened

The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Winnipeg Jets 6-4 in an intense game on October 28, 2024. Led by John Tavares, who recorded a hat trick, and contributions from Max Pacioretty and William Nylander, the Leafs secured the win. Despite a strong second-period effort by the Jets, they couldn’t mount a complete comeback, handing them their first loss of the season after a strong start.

  1. Real Leaf fans knew this one was a gimme.
The Leafs lose against bottom feeders, they lose to their "rivals" so much that people question the rivalry, but an undefeated team at the top of the league? They can't lose if they tied… Which I mean, they kind of did try to throw it away and it almost worked, but hey, that's Leaf hockey…

  2. Dylan Samberg had a terrible game losing his man close to Helle. I think that Pionk Samberg pairing was on for 4 of the 5 goals and if you watch the replays you can see most of those could have been avoided had Samberg defended net front better

  3. I hate that Patches is playing for the Leafs. He was a great Habs asset. The man is talented, even though injury prone. I love that he is still producing, and proving people wrong. Despite being injury prone, he’s tough as nails. I’d love to see him reacquired by the Habs. He was one of our best players early ‘10’s, and could bring some experience.

  4. When watching the Amazon prime stream, there was a bunch of static and interference in the broadcast. Was that happening for others?

  5. I’m here for the Leafs downfall again, that teams lost all chemistry and all play for themselves

  6. The Leafs were desperate, the Jets were flat and played like crap for most of the night. Yawn.

  7. I’m not mad about it. The streak was going to end eventually and there’s plenty of other teams I dislike more than the leafs. Go Jets go

  8. I think a huge killer was Logan Stanley taking 2 super early penalties. Gave up momentum almost instantly. I hate that guy

  9. You replace pionk and stanley on the jets and its a different team , false sence of security for the leafs

  10. As a hockey fan that understands my team, I know exactly what the problem was in this game. It was called pionk and stanley, they made the leafs look good and if they weren’t playing on the Jets, the jets would be dominant five on five

  11. Honestly It was Jets worst game of the year and they still somehow almost came back. No biggie. Still 8-1 whereas if the leafs lost they would’ve been a sub .500 team. Yet on instagram leafs fans look like they just won the cup. Glad you guys had a night leafs fans

  12. It wasn’t that the leafs were good. It’s that the Jets were bad or playing their worst game of the year so don’t feel so cocky leaf fans.

  13. As a leafs fan, it's no wonder that my hair is grey. This team can beat anyone in the league….when they want to. They keep losing to the bottom feeders. If they put a solid effort in every game then we could win the division. Love em, but I don't understand em.

  14. Leafs are such streak killers. They ended NJ Devil’s 13 game winning streak back in 22-23 season too

  15. If there is a "Leafy"'er way for this to happen I can't dream it up. The last three (3) games they looked lost and confused, all of a sudden against the top team in the NHL they're a juggernaut. Wowza.

  16. This game really highlighted the highs and lows of the leafs. Absolutely dominate the game at 5-5. Think the shots were like 30-10 at even strength. But their special teams, good lord. Give up two powerplay goals, another on a delayed penalty, and then another goal with the goalie out. And your own powerplay goes 0-2. Yikes. Credit the Jets with being resilient and opportunistic, but this game had no business being as close as it ended up being.

  17. Said to my family yesterday, even though the Jets are undefeated an insanely good, the Leafs are probably going to win just because it’s a Leafy thing to happen. And what do you know hahaha

  18. the jets only scored when the leafs were shorthanded, 1st and 2nd were a ppg, the 3rd was a delayed penalty, and the last one was 6 on 5 empty net

  19. Winnipeg has started really well and even in this game they stayed in it. Obviously giving up that kind of deficit is bad and cost them here. But they could pile on the pressure in a hurry.

Leafs stepped up after a losing streak. They got the offense when they needed it and hung in there when the Jets were rolling in the third. Props to JT. They weren't all pretty goals, but that's the point. Just score however you can.
