The NHL may NEVER see this again

Marc-André Fleury, who kick started his career in Pittsburgh 21 years ago and helped bring the cup to the Penguins 3 times, was back in town for a reunion in what was his last game in Pittsburgh. It was another emotional one with the Penguins fans showing their love throughout the night. We also got an awesome save reminded me of the one he made back in 2009 to win the Stanley Cup. With him starting in his 1028th game last night though, I had the realization that we will probably never see this in the NHL again. The list is Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Patrick Roy and Marc Andre Fleury. That is the entire list of NHL goalies to have ever played in 1000+ career games. The 2 guys in the league today that you may think of as work horses who could get to 1,000 games would be Connor Hellebuyck in Winnipeg and Andrei Vasilevskiy in Tampa Bay. Helle is currently 31 and has played 512 games while Vasey is 30 and has played in 485 games. Fleury by comparison was already at 595 when he was just 30 years old. I truly think we are witnessing the last goalie in Marc-Andre Fleury who will ever accomplish this feat. As for the game, it was a great one that saw the Penguins once again go up by 2 goals just to throw away a lead and eventually have to push for a tie in the dying minute. I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. you forgot domenic hasek 735 nhl games played, 2 stanley cups, 6 vezina trphies, led the buffalo sabres single handedly to game 7 against the dallas stars where they lost to brett hulls skate in the crease,he was one of the most ingenius goalies ever to play

  2. Vegas misses you, my heart breaks knowing we wont get to see you play after 2025! God speed young man.

  3. Bruins fan here but this guy needs to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He’s pretty much the last reactionary goalie in the league. Most are now playing RVH style.

  4. Find me someone that has a bad thing to say about this guy. Seriously. I'll wait. Guys a beauty!

  5. What all these 4 elite goalies had in common in addition to being french canadian? They were NHL ready at 19-20 year old. Nowadays, goalies start their number 1 careers far later !

  6. He is such a funny guy that is so easy to love! I hope he has a great year to finish off a NHL season with so many great accomplishments. Atta be tendy!

  7. Don't watch him, only really got into hockey February 2023 and been an oiler fan since 07, but I've seen videos of him, it will definitely be a sad day when he plays his final nhl game, but I thought he had this year and next season still

  8. Pens fans just happy to have something to cheer for! 😂 MAF is such a awesome guy. I love Pittsburgh for this.

  9. hes one of the few none habs i want a jersey for. Crosby, Mackinnon, and Fleury. Pittsburgh Jersey, of course, for Crosby and Fleury

  10. Have to disagree. Maybe you’re really young, with a smaller scope of time, but an argument could be made that you’ll see this a lot more in the future. Teams are playing their prospects sooner and with modern medicine, goalies especially will be playing older than d men and a lot older than forwards. Add in the fact that goalie equipment is far more protective than yrs past and the game has less physicality than it once did. Goalies don’t get ran anymore.

  11. Sorry but did you say Patrick Ruwah? It's just pronounced "Wah" Arguably the best goalie ever… should learn how to say it!

  12. Knew somehow he was gonna be there? Dude those 2 can find eachoter with even if they were blind…

  13. Im not a penguins or wild fan but God damn have I always been a MAF Fleury fan
Good on him to seal the deal in his final visit to Pittsburgh

He's a legend and will be a top 5 of my generation

  14. As a Minnesotan and huge penguins fan since 1991 when the took the cup from the north stars, I have always love Sid, Malcom, and Guentzel and Fluery. As a Minnesota, we don’t deserve Fluery. Our organization sucks and we have the worst name in professional sports.
