Why are the New York Islanders so inconsistent this season? One period, they look as good as any team in the league, the next, they’re chasing the puck and look disinterested. We delve into the reasons why on today’s show.

We also discuss Friday night’s loss to the Calgary Flames, discuss our key takeaways as Semyon Varlamov returned to the lineup and Mathew Barzal missed the game with an injury.

  1. Varly let in 3 goals on 6 shots. Thats really not good enough.
Slow starts in all 4 road games. Terrible 1st periods in all 4 games.
    Hard to watch

  2. This is what we do, we play well 3-4 games in a row, look like world beaters then completely flop the next 4-5 games. In all fairness, injuries are killing us

  3. Not enough talent plus coaching. Their goaltending gives isles a chance to win. Except lane can't seem to get isles prepared and ready to go every game. If isles aren't ready to play a hard all out game they aren't going to beat the better teams on most nights. That is just reality. And injuries do isles no favors.
And isles finished the tough 12 stretch from mid dec.-early jan. even at 5-5-2 And right were they were when they started it. Clinging to eighth spot. And that is worse than it looks because isles went 3-0 at home. 2-5-2 in road games. Isles didn't lose any ground yet didn't gain any either. And struggling pens will get going soon. Their offense is too high octane to keep them out of playoff race. And sabres are coming on hot only four pts. behind isles with four games in hand. So isles have to get hot now and win something like 5-6 in a row or 8 out of 10 to remain in playoff spot. Not fooling myself into thinking isles can pull off a streak like that. And i don't see any of the seven teams ahead of isles falling out of playoff spot. I know isles pulled off a 17 game unbeaten streak early in '19-'20 season. But that was during prime trotz time. And next up is stars who already handled isles easily on the road earlier this season. Good show Gil.

  4. I said this last week, we do not have the offensive horses to play the way Lane wants. Also, We need a better coach for the pp. McClain's not the right guy for us. Where's Doug Weight??!!

  5. Gil somehow they are still in the hunt in the 2nd wildcard spot. Now is this the line in the sand moment? Or do they tank the rest of the season? People are saying they're going to sell at the deadline, but how could they? This is the last run for this bunch of guys. Clutter, Bailey, Martin, belivea, and varlarmoff. Forgive the spelling. So to tank a season isn't fair to the guys who give 200% every night. Plus we ain't getting bedard!!!!

  6. It’s impossible to play our style of hockey which is playoff style hockey for 82 games.
Our number one defenseman being out, amongst other injuries doesn’t help.
Look on the bright side after not doing well these past four games were still tied for a playoff spot .
