  1. No, they won't trade him until after 2025 if ever, and why should they?

  2. I don't think they'll trade him, I think they will try to keep this core together because they're finally coming into their own.

  3. the leafs have 31.5 million locked into players for the season nylander is due… itll be hard to predict what this team will do by then… but i would imagine pasta is gonna get 10+ from the bruins,,, and nylander is not on pastas level… i wouldnt give nylander anything more than 8.5… perhaps even sign him to a 1 year deal to match up his next contract with the tavares deal… tavares will take a massive cut after his contract is done and free up some serious money… but with only 4 players signed already to that season its hard to predict where this team is going tbh

  4. Leafs probably wont be able to keep all four of Matthews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander. One of those needs to be traded for a d-man.

  5. See here's the thing for me – Tavares' next contract with the Leafs, since he probably is staying for good, is gonna drop what. 4 mil? Maybe even 5? That right there already covers the raise to both Matthews AND Marner if they're willing to swallow some cap concerns in the 24/25 season. So I'm actually not nearly as concerned about keeping Matthews for cap reasons – it's playoff success that will determine that. With Nylander though…

I saw a point brought up once, that basically when the capitals won their cup, everybody on that roster knew who the true superstar was. No one, no matter how talented, didn't deserve the same contract as Ovechkin, and if they really wanted any success they couldn't afford it (primarily, Backstrom, who was only a $6.7mil AAV at the time despite deserving far more). It's a similar story too with other teams – one or two genuine stars, and everybody else has to accept a little less.

The Leafs already have Matthews and Marner – there's your two stars, and Matthews is the true star player. Tavares may be making $11mil for now, but we all know that's dropping significantly in a few years. So, frankly, Nylander has to make one of two choices. Either, he has to accept that he simply won't ever make the same kind of salary as he could elsewhere, definitely sacrificing at least 2, maybe 3 mil AAV just to stay in Toronto, or he gets traded to a different team. The parity of the NHL simply can't afford 4 $11mil+ players on a team :/

  6. Pretty sad, when you can't keep a team together because of salary cap restrictions. However, that same team pays Massive revenue sharing to support other teams.

  7. nylander should go to the knights so that him and karlsson can play together and possibly get karlsson started up again at that 70 point mark again the only problem is our cap but we could trade a couple bad contracts for him

  8. Just the title of this video is stuuuupid. Won't happen at all just hockey drama talk. Nylander will remain a Leaf this season and will probably be resigned. Leafs will find a way to keep who they want as they seem to do and they will not want to part ways from someone who keeps progressing each season

  9. The Leafs better win the Cup either this year or next year while Matthews and Nylander are still on the team. Once Stanley Cup is won, mission is accomplished. Let players go wherever they want to.
