The Montreal Canadiens lose to Seattle, and now is the time to promote Juraj Slafkovsky.

Inside today’s Locked on Canadiens:

The Montreal Canadiens got absolutely obliterated by the Seattle Kraken on Monday night, and the hosts have reached their answer for this season; the Habs are not a good hockey team. They break down a disastrous non-effort by the team and discuss whether or not the team has hit rock bottom yet this season. And for those asking, no it’s not just the cursed Reverse Retro jerseys anymore.

Out of everything that happened in a no-good, very bad night, there was a small bright spot for the Habs. Juraj Slafkovsky looked a lot more confident in the loss to Seattle, and with the Habs still in a serious tailspin is it time to give him a longer run on the top line?

Also, with the NHL Trade Deadline looming in just over a month, is it time for the Canadiens to consider retaining salary on some of their longer term contracts in order to move them out? Scott and Laura take a look at the cap situation, and why impending extensions might make salary retention a bad idea in the immediate future. However, is there a case to be made for potentially taking on a bit of cap in the long-term?

  1. To be honest Juraj Had a good game compared to others he was actually passing with his head up he was seeing plays before they happened because he had his head up the only thing is he was passing to much I would have liked to see him shoot more I do agree we need to send him down to the AHL but this game showed that the work he’s doing with Adam Nicholas I believe that’s his name lol but it shows that the work he’s doing with Juraj is working and that’s a good sign it’s a sign that he’s very good being coached and it shows that he wants to get better and I saw him improve in this game when it comes to the big things he needed to work on Jake Evans was easily our best forward and Kirby Dach was also good I’m happy with the lose because I want them to get a superstar with their own pick or potentially a Franchise generational player and hopefully we get a superstar with Floridas pick so I’m happy with the lose i would just like to see them score more and be more exciting like at the start of the season and I’m sure when Monahan comes back this team will be better offensively because other teams are only Attacking our first line all the other lines are not a threat teams can lightly defend all our other lines and focus on our first line and that’s why a solid second line Center or a superstar Center always makes a big difference because it give our first line more space because they have to worry about our second line and when Monahan was here teams had to defend that line because they were deadly if you gave them space cause Monahan is a amazing player to be honest he’s super underrated and that gave Suzuki Caufield and Dach more time and that’s why they were scoring so much because they had the space and that’s why I can’t wait for Montreal to get better players cause that will be the answer getting a young talented Center and some young wingers on the second line will make this team better and that’s why Montreal NEEDS!! To take a Center in this draft they have to they took the winger last draft which was smart because I would rather Slaf instead of Wright because the 10th ranked Center in this draft is 2 times better then Shane Wright 😂😂 so if Montreal walks away from this draft with Carrlson or Fantilli or Will Smith and then a Winger like Zach Benson or Eduard Sale Montreal will be set for an amazing future!!! Sorry for the long rant 😂😂😂

  2. MAILBAG!!! Scott and Laura in your next Mail bag could you guys wish my Dad a happy Birthday I showed him your podcast last year and ever since he hasn’t missed an episode every night before he goes to work he watches your episode so for a surprise could you say happy Birthday to Kevin Lussier 🙏🏻 His Birthday was January 9th love ya guys!!!

  3. Guys we are shoe horning Slafkovsky here and as CANADIENS fans we are too DEEP in our wants to see that this kid SHOULD not be in the NHL at this stage.

We want is so bad we are rushing to put him on the first line!!!!!

Do we hear ourselves talking or are we in a fan induced ECHO CHAMBER of WANTING SOMETHING!!!

Not one of the 2022 draft class is in the NHL
THEY ARE all marinating and developing in the AHL AND JUNIOR

SLAF SHOULD be with the Erie Otters and traded to a contender to make a memorial cup run

We are conferring magical powers to Adam Nicolas

Stop being fans and see the 2022 draft class for what it is Two very solid Defenders in Juricek and Nemec both toiling in the AHL

    COOLEY working in the NCAA

AND Slaf and Wright were were 1 a and 1b selections who should be in junior

Not wishing them onto THE FIRST LINE for heavens sake

I say see the WORLD for what it is not what we WANT it to be

Do we really believe Adams Nicolas — who was with Toronto Turned Austin Mathews into a 60 goal scorer and he transformed MARNER and Nylander or were they a First Round 4 th Round and 8 th Round pick who happened to be more talented then our First overall

I am not throwing shade on Slaf and he likely will be a good player but the should be where Beck and Mesar are far from the prying eyes..,

  4. Edmunson is the only non-ufa habs that I'd accept retaining salary for the right return.

Beside him, I wouldn't keep any salary for guys like Andy, Armia or Hoffman. Our UFAs though for sure I would (Drouin Dado Monahan).
