Jack Hughes leads the NHL in 5 on 5 goals and has the 2nd most 5 on 5 points

Meanwhile Conor “power play merchant” McDavid has only scored 27 of his 77 points in 5 on 5 play.

It’s been great to watch Jack dominate 5 on 5 but how do we get our power play cooking a bit more? Plenty of offensive talent on our first group yet we’re currently sitting at 18th in the league with a 20.6% conversion rate.

Jack Hughes is that guy. Seriously glad we have him and Nico locked up.

As for the power play, I legit think this team overthinks them and is at a point of anxiety with them.

I think we need to just take more shots. We force passes wayyy too much and we just seemingly look for that “perfect” window for a shot. Dougie needs more blasts from the point, we need a good netfront guy that isn’t afraid to win those battles in front of the net (like bastian). We will get it figured out.

    The real question:

When will people learn to stop taking penalties against the oilers? Obviously he isn’t very productive outside of the powerplay.

But Lafreniere hit 25 career 5v5 goals before Hall, Hughes, Kane, MacKinnon, NugentHopkins, Stamkos, or Tavares got to 20.

He’s also 3rd on the Rangers in 5v5 points, he just needs some PP time, what is Gallant even thinking scratching him?

Seems like the way to get our powerplay cooking more is to acquire McDavid.
