Would you support an NHL Division Restructure? Eight divisions instead of four divisions.

I made this because I don’t want to fight Boston [a lot] anymore…

🙁 I’m tired of it, grandpa.

EDIT: In case it wasn’t obvious, four divisions in the Western and four in the Eastern Conference.

EDIT 2: I also tried to keep divisional rivals a thing, but I know that’s not really possible because some teams have multiple rivalries.

I would rather not play Boston more so I’m moving them to the Northeast.

    Buffalo moves to the Patrick

Philly moves to the Metro, aka the “every game is a home game” division

edit – haha I thought this was in /r/hockey. Good luck Sabres, the Tage Show is my favorite nightly highlight reel.

It would depend on how they did the schedule but it could be cool.

    – Play each team (3) in the division 6 times = 18 games
    – Play each team in 1 division of the 3 in the conference 4 times = 16 games
    – Play each team in 2 divisions of the 3 in the conference 2 times = 16 games
    – Play every team but one in the other conference 2 times = 32 games

This would give you a 3 v 3 for division rivals. Would be awesome if they were able to schedule all 3 of these in a row. Imagine playing Toronto Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night in Buffalo in the same week? The games would feel like the playoffs!

This would give you 2 home v 2 away for 1 division and a home v away for the other 3 divisions.
    The division would rotate.

Lastly, this would give you a home and away against every team in the west. Ensuring every player in the NHL would play in every other barn each and every season.

The Northwest division has some nice rivalries. It would be nice for us to have the same rivalries we had back when the division was five teams.

Edit: you should crosspost this to r/hockey

I’m okay with this, but can we just call it the Canada East for the Northeast? Buffalo is okay with it, we grew up with Canadian TV and radio and heading across the border at 19 for drinks and fun. And now I’m in it for the health care and functioning legal weed market.

I think it would be very unlikely that we’d stay in the northeast over Boston – Boston – Montreal and Boston – Toronto rivalries and markets way outweigh our rivalry with Toronto or Ottawa

we’d most likely get shoved in the metro, unless they put Philly there and we get Pit/Det/Cbj. But idk that breaking up the pit/philly rivalry is realistic

I’d love to see a Buf/Pit/Det/Cbj division and call it the great lakes division. Ooh, or even better and less realistic – Buf/Tor/Det/Chi great lakes division

The more and more I think about divisions, the more and more I think that the NHL is going to expand to 36 teams.

6 divisions of 6. 3 divisions each conference.

    West Division 1
    Vancouver
    Seattle
    Calgary
    Edmonton
    Winnipeg
    Expansion – Portland, OR

    West Division 2
    San Jose
    LA
    Anaheim
    Vegas
    Phoenix
    Colorado

    West Division 3
    Minnesota
    Chicago
    St. Louis
    Dallas
    Nashville
    Expansion – Houston

    East Division 1
    Expansion – Quebec City
    Montreal
    Boston
    Toronto
    Expansion – 2nd Toronto Team
    Ottawa

    East Division 2
    Rangers
    Islanders
    Jersey
    Detroit
    Columbus
    Buffalo

    East Division 3
    Tampa
    Florida
    Carolina
    Washington
    Pittsburgh
    Philly

  8. I’ve wanted this for years, but with a few minor tweaks:
-Northeast, Northwest, Pacific and Metro are all good.
-Arizona, Colorado, Dallas and St. Louis make the “South”
-Winnipeg, Minnesota, Chicago and Detroit make the “Central”
-Nashville, Carolina, Tampa and Florida make the Southeast
-Columbus, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Washington make the last division
