This team went to the Western Conference finals with a 40yr old goaltender and a D core made up of mostly 3rd pairing defensemen. Like over the last couple of years, guys have come to Edmonton and played better than they did on their previous teams. Hyman, Kane, Ceci, Barrie, Kostin, etc. Not everyone of course, but it’s not like Edmonton is a career graveyard like it used to be. Is McDavid as good of a leader as Crosby? No, but I don’t think anyone in the show is. Is McDavid still a competent leader who elevates those around him? Yes and same goes for Drai.

But if the team was finishing 1st in the pacific every year and he was truly a terrible leader then absolutely no one would be talking about this. Leadership isn’t some potion that wills you to win another 20 games each season, it only gets you so far.
