Is Brooksie Right? Rangers Should Give Chytil More Time

https://nypost.com/2023/01/11/rangers-arent-helping-themselves-by-limiting-filip-chytil/

Honestly not a fan of Brooks but I can’t help but think he’s right in this case.

I really liked what I saw when Chytil was with Panarin earlier in the season. I’d swap him and Trocheck. I also think Trocheck is more suited as a solid shutdown sort of guy. The kind of guy that played so well against Zibanejad and Strome in the playoffs against us last season. That’s the kind of play we’ll need from him come the spring time

In any case, I think Chytil has earned the opportunity, curious what you all think.

    Play the youth…it’s our future.

  2. Inevitable_Soft4897

absolutely, any time he’s out there I think he’s doing a great job. him and Kakko are my babies.

  3. They straightjacketed him the moment they signed Tro to a big deal. Chytil will never have a 2C role on this team so as long as Tro is here and healthy. And Tro is deserving of 2C as well.

So what can Gallant really do at this point? My only thought would be keep the lines the way they are except the PP.. Give the kids more of the time on the PP. Make the first PP unit something like – Kakko, Chytil, Panarin, Mika and Fox. PP2 could be – Laf, Tro, Kreider, Trouba and Miller

There are endless combos they could be trying to fix this stale af PP that would also benefit the kids. This coach needs to wake tf up

  4. 1000%. He should be playing with Panarin. Trocheck is a good 2C but would be incredible as a 3C. I know his contract indicates a higher standing but that’s not Gallant’s problem

  5. Honestly. I think chytil looked really good when he was with kravt and goat. I think Goat had 2 breakaways obe game with this line

Flip Laf to RW and play kravy-chytil-goat.

As per stats provided by u/NYM32

    >Laf + Panarin 5v5 this year: 59% CF%, 56% SF%, 56% SCF%, 52% xGF%

So i would put panarin-tro-laf as our 2nd line. Even tho i hate messing with kravy as he has been playing well

But who knows what the lines are gonna be if kreiders gotta miss time

He has the highest 5v5 pts/60 on the team i believe. Probably our most dynamic forward at even strength. Give the man his due.

I love seeing his confidence grow, but the one thing holding him back is his continued struggles on faceoffs. At just 38.9%, he’s in that range where he has to be paired with another center and/or moved to the wing if he’s going to play in all situations.

Jack Hughes is even worse at the dot, and the Devils put Haula, another center, on his line to take all the faceoffs. After the puck is dropped, Hughes plays the rest of the shift as the center and Haula moves to the wing. The Isles do something similar with Barzal, who’s perhaps the worst of the three at faceoffs. He still lines up for a lot of draws, but not so many important ones.

So we do that with Chytil, or he has to get better at faceoffs. He doesn’t have to turn into Bergeron. He just needs to get up around 45-46% where it doesn’t really matter if you win or lose. If he can do that, then I think we’ll see him earning consistent top 6 minutes.

Chytil, Kakko, and Key should get all the ice they can handle.

Meanwhile, I’m beyond merely “concerned” about Lafreniere at this point. He’s still very young but he’s been invisible and a complete non-factor in every game I’ve watched this year.

It’d be one thing if it looked like he was improving or noticeably involved in games, but I don’t feel that way at all. Strangely he doesn’t seem to lack confidence, which is helpful, but I’m worried he lacks the processing speed to be successful at this level. It’s year three now, and he’s on pace for HALF as many goals as last year.

I hope I’m overreacting, like I do 90% of the time. But fucking yikes.

Something that I’ve been noticing is that (no shock here) if you share a lit of ice time with Adam Fox, you tend to play a lot better. I would love see the Rangers play Fox with the middle 6 more for maybe 2 or 3 games and see how they respond.

  10. manticore16

Maloney was saying the exact same thing in OT, more of him over Trocheck.

Is the a bad thing? Right now our center depth consist of 3 top 6 caliber centers. We have depth down the middle which is great when trying to win a cup

With Trocheck here and playing the way he is, Fil has near 0 chance of getting any time at 2C. Personally I’d like to see him get a few games here and there at the spot to see what he can do but if the team is doing well with him at 3C there’s little reason to shake things up.

  13. Jokercard08

You are correct to not be a fan of Brooks, but he is right here.

Pan – Fil has shown ( in their brief time together) far more chemistry than Pan -Tro. Tro has been given chance after chance after chance at this, and his failed to connect. If he was younger, this wouldn’t even be a conversation.

However, the organization sent a clear message to Fil this offseason, when they went out and anchored themselves to one of Gallant’s boys, in lieu of extending or paying him. That Trochek signing told Fil in black and white “we do not value you, or see you as a 2C, and you will never be one here) Despite his blossoming into a dominant offensive player.

The obvious answer, given how Goofus deploys his PP exclusively to 5 players, is to let Fil pick up the slack 5v5, and move Tro to a 3C. I actually really liked what I saw from CK-Tro-Vesey, and found that line to be more dominant than either Pan – Tro – Krav, or Laf- Fil – Vesey (the numbers don’t like that Ck-Zib- KK is our best line).

but it all comes down to reputation. There is no metric where Fil is somehow a detriment, or a defensive liability anymore than Trocheck, but somehow you still read people saying “Pan – fil – krav would be a defensive nightmare!” despite Krav being literally elite defensively. The one drawback that line would have, is Fil’s ineptitude on the faceoff dot. Ideally, you want your second line taking Ozone draws and winning them.

Though given Goofus’ utter lack of understanding and use of deployment, this may not be an issue, as sammy blais and goodrow seem to take as many Ozone draws as CK and Zib

I’ve said it before, but the Trocheck signing was a massive bungle. Had they not made that move, they would have had the space to resign Vatrano (one of the only fucking shooters this team had) and just moved Fil up to 2C where he belonged, and used the remaining space for a depth signing and faceoff ace like Milano, or Rodriguez, but sadly, Trocheck was Gallant’s buddy in Florida, so here he is.

So, yes, Fil should be our 2C and our lineup should look something like

    Ck – Zib – KK

    Pan – Fil – Krav

    Laff- Tro – Gaut

    Good – Balls – vesey

however, “reputations” AAVs and straight up personal bias from the coaching staff will prevent them from doing this.

I hope to god above they convince Fil to stick around and swallow whatever lowball offer they’re bound to give him, or he will be yet another forward who will have his best years off broadway.

  14. flowstuff

yes. i usually think his takes are shit, but fil has earned big mins more than any of the kids.

  15. I think it’s clear Chytil goes out on a trade or in free agency. They’re not giving him a big money contract.

  16. SickPullBro

“I guess that’s what I’m saying brooksy. You get that through your head?”

  17. KellVarnson214

Brooks is a moron. He’s the guy that stated numerous times that Bobby Holik is the best hockey player on the planet. He was never even the best hockey player on any professional team he ever played on.
