Y’all ever have the profound realization as runners that the world of running is like average wealth of families in America? People who don’t run are like middle and lower class citizens. Some are pretty damn fast naturally but most just fall into the lower groups. Then there’s the millionaires, kids who were fast in elementary and middle school and can compete at a medium level, but are nothing special. When it comes down to it there are millions of millionaires, they seem rich (fast) to the lower and middle classes, but to anybody of the same wealth (speed) they know they’re nothing special. As the millions stack up to the even wealthier the numbers start to taper off into the multimillionaires (these are like the sub-17 to 16 5k crowd) there’s another bracket above that, with the people who have hundreds of millions, but this is where the numbers really dwindle. Then there’s the billionaires, people so rich that us common people (even runners) can’t mentally process how much richer (faster) they are then everybody else in the world. And that’s just on a national level. Then there’s bill gates and Jeff Bezos who are so much fucking faster then everybody else it’s not even close. The reason why I started thinking about this is because a friend who had just joined our team told me that he thought that I was crazy-insane fast and he couldn’t comprehend how quick I was. But he said that after he joined he realized i was just part of the “millionaires” pack, nothing really that special on a large scale. It’s an almost perfect analogy. I think I kinda stumbled across this reasoning after I realized that if I raced everybody in my school, I’d be in the top .2-.4% (at least in a mile/5k), like a millionaire in a way. But when I’m placed against the top people in the conference (other millionaires) I’m really nothing special, unremarkable in almost every way. Idk if y’all think about that. It’s just kinda weird to think about.
To put this is perspective:- Worlds Records 800m for High School aged runners. Grade 11: 1:42.53 Timothy Kitum, Kenya. Grade 12: 1:41.73 Nijel Amos, S. Africa.
I was a sprinter in skl and they put me in for the 800m which I had never done before… I went off fast as sprinters do and proceeded to finish last 🤣🤣🤣🤣 never forget that day haha.

I thought my 2:08 was a decent time..: I would have been 100m behind last in this race 😂
Imagine running a 1:53.2 in a HS race and getting last

That’s absolutely incredible
Nobody's going to believe this guy when he says that he beat Drew Hunter in a race
dude this made my heart pump and i wasn’t even running
Proud to say McGorty went to my school…
2:19 sounds like a tobey mguire scream
We had to do 800m at my school for a random PE lesson when we had a TA teaching us cause they aren’t qualified in gymnastics
The 800m is a death sentence it’s incredibly hard I ran 2:19 and got 4th and it sucked as it was my best time as a junior.
Teacher: This year we're gonna have a running race
Me: Meh
Teacher: and the first prize is gonna be a PS5
Me: "Sonic mode Activate"
Drew is my man, he has heart!
McGorty was done! 10 more feet and Drew would’ve had him.
Where are these guys now?
I remember watching this in 7th grade and not knowing how fast this really was
High Schoolers:800m Race
Me and the bois at 300m dying
Man this is making my 2:20 feel like trash..
at 300m to go, you could never guess who would win. 800 M60 – EMAC 2019-Campionati Europei Master-Jesolo-13/09/2019 – YouTube
Imagine running a 1:53 and getting last
800m is by far the hardest race because you sprint long distance
i’m only in middle school, but i did a 800 in 2:45 today and was so proud now i’m rethinking a little lol
The best time I got for the 800 was 3:25 and I'm 12
And here I am with a 3:15 800 😑
I think that IS the best HS 800 ever. Not just a great race, but one of the fastest too. Where was this at?
Coach: You all did good! Now, you all just need to improve by about 5 seconds to catch the East Africans.

I’m doing 800m race next week in high-school for sports day .
The abhorrent cellar analytically scrape because noise minimally beg onto a light rubber. like, opposite elizabeth
30 years ago I was running 1:54 in HS and was untouchable. I’d have come in dead last in this race. Jesus
I use to run a 1:52 as a freshman and no body ever batted an eye. If only I knew my own potential. Wasted my life for drugs.
dave wottle 1972 munich. Look it up
Imagine running low 1:50’s in high school & still getting gapped…
Boys race?? They running grown men times
today i almost broke that
Romans 10:9
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Reminds me of lightning McQueen
Jesus I thought my 2:01 was good 😂
my fastest being a 2:10🥲
I like the commentators as well, they have that genuine enthusiasm for the sport, instead of slickness.
Meanwhile the current best female 800 runner in the world is at 1:55. Moral of the story: Identify as a woman for instant high school success!
Finishing camera set up fail 🙁
I keep up with everyone on the first lap, but I gas out on the 2nd lap and I fall behind
What in the hell are these roid runners how is last place even running 1:53
Crazy last year there were 4 people on the same team who could do this…
Shows you how much times have changed within only a few years
the guy who won this race MADE this race, brave run and glad he took first
That’s HS? Good Grief.
