  1. I vividly remember this game. At the outset of the season, I printed the Red Wings 2001-02 schedule in Excel and taped it to my wall, highlighting Wins in yellow, Losses in blue, Ties in pink, and Overtime Losses in green.

When they went down 0-2 against Vancouver in the first round, I was a little rattled, but figured they'd win it.

When Pronger tried to take out Yzerman in the Blues series on a bad reconstructed knee and served his own demise up on an icy platter, I knew it was going to be a special run.

When they went down two different times in the Conference Finals against the Avs, I thought they might get eliminated, but when they tied it up and forced Game 7, I knew it was in the books. Then, when this game happened, I flipped the f*** out with excitement with each goal. After the rest of the series was so contentious, it was magical to see the Wings so thoroughly dominate on both ends of the ice, and to score SEVEN in GAME 7 was doubly sweet! And to clinch it in the now defunct Joe Louis Arena, their home ice, was triply sweet 😀

The Wings had such a ridiculous future Hall-Of-Famer roster that season, too. Yzerman, Lidstrom, Hasek, Duchesne, Fedorov, Datsyuk, Chelios, Olausson, Hull, Robitaille, Shanahan, Larionov, Legace, plus the Grind Line with McCarty, Maltby, Draper, and occasionally Devereaux. They seriously had one of the deepest rosters in NHL history that year!!!

  2. I remember being a kid and my parents took me to abc warehouse and I watched this game on the display tv's for like 30 minutes

  3. Patrick should have gone to the bench and demanded that the team president trade him to Montreal

  4. I had a football game that day and missed the first n second period ..came home to 7-0 in shock, still remember 20 years later

  5. One of the best teams ever assembled all time all sport i dare you to name one better??? And No bulls team with jordan was better then the wings team….

  6. 02 was the year I was a redwings fan and left the Toronto maple for good 22 years later still a diehard fan of redwings

  7. I remember I was so nervous before this game. I didn't know how to get rid of the anxiety until the cup final started.

  8. Red Wings… Thorne and Clement… Roy getting his butt handed to him and pulled… Avs eliminated… PERFECTION

  9. 2 goals and the roof is caving in on the Av's, at that point in time what a asinine comment. 2 goals, hands of cement Clement just two. 🤣🤣🤣

  10. and 20 years later, the 2 time defending champion lightning suffered the same fate vs avs

  11. I have to say, am glad of the humiliation Roy suffered during this game, being a Habs fan I never forgave him for walking out the way he did in 95 lil bitch! But I think the best series I ever watched with Detroit in the final was in 2009 vs Sid the kid and the Pittsburgh Penguins, what a great series that was. Maybe the best hockey, ever

  12. As an Avs fan, being recommended this video was painful.
But I watched it anyway because I respect hockey history and understood just how good of a rival the Red Wings were.

  13. To this day….that fuckin Larionov pass to Luc was a Gretzky/ Lemieux vision

    Fedorov scores!
    Robitaille scores!
    Hull scores!
    Datsyuk scores!
    Pass by Yzerman
    Pass by Lidstrom
    Hasek save!

    Wtf lol

  14. Halfway through the game up 6-0 and watching Roy get pulled. There's no sweeter feeling.

  15. I remember I had set my VCR to record this game because I was at work that night. I came home, was careful not to look at ESPN or any other sports channel that might've spoiled the ending for me. I rewound the tape, thinking I got it to the point of the beginning of the game. But I messed up and hit Play when the tape was near the end of the 1st period (at 4-0). I was utterly shocked and just fast-fwd'd through the rest…lol. What a waste, totally shocking.

  16. next to The Captain scoring the game winner in double OT, this is my all time favorite Red Wing memory.
my new barber's a young guy about 25 years old. he was telling me how great the Avs were going to be in the playoffs, and rooting for them. I said nope…can't won't.
I don't care we're in different conferences now there's just still too much bad blood from the 90s!

  17. Colorado had a few bad game 7's during this Era. 4-0 to Oilers in '98, 4-1 to Dallas in '99 and this demolition to Detroit in 2002.

  18. I was graduating high school when this game happened and my dad was recording the game at home.I just remember walking down a hallway with all my classmates going to get our diplomas and I remember one of them distinctly saying "can you believe the Red Wings are already up 4 goals after the first period?" I heard that and was like What ?!?! It's a day I'll never forget for many reasons and that moment is one of them

  19. IN 99, AVS ELIMINATED BACK TO BACK CHAMPS RED WINGS AND SAME THING IN 2022 VS LIGHTNING

  20. This was as hyped for a game as I ever was in my life. Pacing around pregame, probably near sweating. Lying on the floor😅 one of the greatest series I ever watched certainly

  21. Hasek said later he didn't start to relax until it was 6-0 and Roy was out of the game.
