Alex Nedeljkovic Grand Rapids Conditioning Boosting Griffins Season

With a goalie overload in Detroit, the Red Wings re-assigned goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the Grand Rapids Griffins. A long-time NHL goaltender, the assignment came as a surprise for Nedeljkovic but he’s embracing the opportunity to get a few games in. Before re-assignment, Ned played in only 9-games this season before getting moved aside by Ville Husso and Magnus Hellberg.
Since his return to the AHL, he’s tallied a 1.63 GAA and .950 SA%. His presence has boosted the morale and confidence of the Griffins, who have been struggling to string together wins. With Ned’s ability to keep pucks out and taking advantage of his time, the Griffins’ goaltenders are hopefully pulling away some valuable lessons themselves.
We take a look at the Red Wings’ decision to send Ned down, what he overall brings to the team besides the obvious NHL skill, and how the team should plan on moving forward once he returns to Detroit.

  1. Enjoy watching Ned (hopefully) get his confidence back. I'm hope the guys play well in front him when he gets back to Detroit. Objectively speaking, they've played very poorly in front of him all year. (Edited for spelling errors)

  2. I don't blame Ned for the stats he has. The rest of the team has let him down quite a bit. Detroit has quite a few young players and playing from behind sucks. They seemed to just give up expecting to lose rather than keep trying.
Husso got off to a good start and the rest of the team seem to keep pushing to win games.
I'm hoping Ned comes back up and can settle down nerves on the team and silence critics.

I know some more moves are coming for Detroit, likely a trade in the near future or sending back down someone like Veleno who is someone else that deserves NHL play in my opinion. Zadina will probably get a conditioning stint so hopefully he can get himself going as well, as the beginning of the season he looked good in his play but not in his stats. I know many critics say he is a bust and we should move on, like Ned as well, but both have great things they could provide. Here is hoping to show improvement for all Michigan hockey.

  3. Got to meet Ned at training camp this year, a very kind inviting person. He was in the process of leaving, he had just signed autographs for nearly an hour, I arrived late sadly. Ned pulled his truck over, got out, signed a few more things for children and myself, shows the true character of who he is not just as a player, but as a person.
Would love to see a video on Kyle Criscolo, Domic Shine, or how the Griffins can improve their Special teams. Much love as always, LGRW 🐙🏒🤘

  4. Everything you said about Ned is spot on. I also have seen the difference in the play of the defense and even the offense. I would also like to keep Ned in Grand Rapids.
