I gotta be honest, I really think a guy like Frank Boucher really needs to be on there, but I don’t know who you take off. A guy with three cups (two as a player, one as a coach) and so many Lady Byng’s they gifted him the actual trophy… he’s an absolute legend.

In 20 years, it will be Fox replacing Gilbert

Keeping this list to 4 is the hard part.

Edmonton easily the strongest. After that holy shit Pittsburgh has like always had a fucking generational guy.

Probably will get some flak for this, but I’d put Richter before Hank. Dude had a great career and was a big part of that cup winning season. I still remember him stopping Bure on that penalty shot in game 4. I’ve only seen the one title in my life so I’m extremely partial to the legends that made it happen.

First, let me preface the following by admitting that I am definitely overthinking this lol…
The thing about a Mt. Rushmore concept is that even the real thing is probably not accurate anymore. It honors Presidents during America’s most historic events *up to the 1920s*. In the 100 years since then, a really strong case could be made that at least one President is more deserving of the honor. If Mt. Rushmore was carved today, you gotta think FDR would be one of the four up there.
So if we do a Mt. Rushmore for hockey teams, especially old ones like the Rangers, it feels like we either have to account for the different eras (pre expansion, post expansion?), or like the actual Rushmore, limit the candidates up to a specific point in Rangers history.
Mt. Rushmore construction started in 1927, which is roughly 61% of the way through America’s total existence. 61% of the Rangers timeline puts us at about 1985. So my historically adjusted Rangers Mt. Rushmore is:
– Lester Patrick – Frank Boucher – Andy Bathgate – Rod Gilbert

Before I looked at the picture, my first thought was Brian Leetch better be on there.

Gotta say, I am pleasantly surprised at seeing Frank Boucher & Bill Cook’s name in the comments!

The fact that Tampa fans didn’t put Vinny lecavalier up there proves how many of their fans are due to their recent success lol
