Fair take and I agree. I think if the trade was today, Zito would rightly pull the trigger on it. It’s still a good trade and there’s no telling if the team would be doing well with Huberdeau & Weegar. Losing the team’s threats from the third and fourth line hurt more than the trade, not to mention the extended injury time from Horny, Duke, Barkov, Ekblad, etc.

If the trade is in the minus column, it’s in at most 4th place behind the loss of Marchment, Vatrano, Acciari, etc., Injuries, and PoMo’s coaching strategy. I’d even put it maybe behind Bob’s contract and Yandle’s cap hit.

Looks like great trade and I was worried Tkachuk would decline and hasn’t. On the flip side I understand the attachment of Huberdeau I watched him for so many years and you don’t think the name on the back of the jersey will decline, but it will look like a horrible contract In 3 years Tkachuk will still be putting up points.

The problem the first half of the season was not talent.
Tkachuk has brought life to this team in dark times. I’m all in on the guy.

The fuck up wasn’t the future-sighted Tkachuk trade, it was the short sighted giroux and chiarot trades that are really biting us right now IMO
