Ilya Sorokin Was Spectacular But the New York Islanders Were Not

Ilya Sorokin was outstanding but the New York Islanders were not. Sorokin kept the Isles close but they fell in OT 3-2 in Buffalo in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score. There were some bright spots including Brock Nelson finally ending his drought and a great game by Matt Martin but the Isles were outshot and again struggled to clear their zone.

Sorokin was also named to the NHL All Star Weekend and we discuss why he definitely deserves to go.

We also have a full preview of Saturday’s home game vs the Carolina Hurricanes and a former captain and coach of the Isles is our Isles Birthday of the Day.

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. Sorokin saves the isles again getting them a point. I think paul simon once had a song about where this isles season is heading. I hope it is a lou favourite. That is all. No need to rant about the obvious. Nothing can or will be done about it.

  2. They benched DoFour for mistakes made in his first game!!!! But losers like Bailey & Holmstrom get opportunity over and over again. That loser lee, 2 points in 11 games. The coaching staff & GM are a disgrace. Nothing changes because their inability to take a chance holds them back. They are cowards full of fear and panic. Ownership must step up at this point because Lou will never do the right thing. Lou is the worst gm. The fakest “GM of the year award”.

  3. Clutterbuck injured? That’s a common occurrence. That’s why you don’t sign 4th liners like clutter with injury issues. Of course LOU does. Funny how they didn’t have “cap space” for toews but they have enough for idiots like clutter, Martin, Bailey, lee & palmeri. The organization is tan by idiots.

  4. The goat of EVERY game is Lou. Until he does SOMEthing to improve this team, he will continue to have that honor. They even played that vid of the guy yelling at old man Liu to get horvat or meier on TNT. I mean, come on. You can't make this stuff up!

  5. I'm starting to think that ownership is broke from the pandemic and CAN'T spend money on this team. You don't go into this and last season with this roster knowing you lack any goal scorers. It's just embarrassing.

  6. We lost to the Sabers. It's time to face reality….this is a middle of the pack team that needs to make big move to have a chance but don't have a GM that can be trusted to make solid deals.

  7. The only positive thing this season has been Sorokin. This team is shot, Lou and Lane need to be fired. If anyone else did their jobs are bad as they do, they’d be transferred or fired also !

  8. It’s pretty bad when UBS employees have bad things to say about the players, “ all they care about is their paychecks, they’re all buddy’s and couldn’t care less about winning”

  9. That’s the story of this team every single night my patience with guys like beauvillier and Anders is at an all time low and I don’t think sorokin resigns when the time comes if we continue to offer him no support offensively and now not even defensively
