Chiarot is DeKeyser 2.0 except for that Danny would have been better if not for his back issues

Seriously, I get what Chiarot adds to a team, but why does every NHL gm want him so badly? He’s a decent middle/bottom pair physical defenseman, but GMs pay him and trade assets for him like he’s a borderline top pair quality player

Still think it’s kind of ridiculous to put so much focus on Chiarot. Seider was making noticeably bad decisions out there, and still is from time to time. We don’t look at forwards this way, why do we think a high skill defenseman like Seider would be so greatly affected by the way Ben Chiarot plays hockey?

It’s not so much he found his game, it was that playing with Chiarot was keeping him from playing his game.

I know people say we were warned about Chiarot by the way he played in Florida, but if I’m reading his fancy stats right he is playing *so much worse than he was in Florida.*
Kinda curious to see his numbers with seider vs now.

The team is losing and Seider is playing well. Just like last year.
I don’t think Seider has been 100% healthy this year either. Guys were targeting him as early as the preseason and for a while he avoided hits in situations where he would’ve crushed guys last year. When physical players stop hitting, it usually means that they’re not healthy.
For Chiarot, I think Boughner/Lalonde just asked too much out of him with top line duty. A Brad Stuart-type role on the second and third pairings might be more suitable. It’ll be interesting to see if his game improves with a little less ice time and better matchups.

The most surprising stat is that it took nearly half a season for Lalonde to switch the pairing, given how poorly they worked out. Granted, early on in the season we were winning games.

Would love to see a stat for the performance of the entire team while the Chiarot / Seider era and ever since. It feels that after the switch the overall performance further dropped.
Don’t get me wrong – huge Seider fan but any franchise is bigger than just one player (see Edmonton) and what is best for Seider is not necessarily best for the team.
Of course all this could mean that the overall team is not properly designed to elevate the young core we should built out over the next 2-3 years.
