I was hoping we would trade him so hopefully this works out. Money is fair for a bridge deal

  2. _HoochieMama

This team is going to pay the exact same roster more money and expect them to be good LOL.

  3. guardianx99

    This is good…
But what does this mean for Horvat?

  4. CanuckAddict94

I’m happy about this because it helps to keep Petey

  5. mghtymrv

Well that was quick. I swear I was eating late night spicy NcNuggets and listening to the Dan Milstein interview on Donnie & Dhali at 1am and here we are.

    Great signing!

  6. postal_service3

Moneywise this is a great deal but really says to me “no for real this time guys we’ll be competitive next year for sure.”

He’s so valuable as a trade-chip this year, but now you’ve locked him down for the next 2 years, for what? Does anyone other than Francisco really believe this team is going to be able to take advantage of Kuzmenko over the next two years?

  7. LackingSanity

In a vacuum? Sure, good deal. However, I don’t believe this team is going to be competitive over the span of this contract, in which case, what is actually being accomplished here?

  8. Fuckin’ eh! That’s a great deal for an awesome player. Love this guy.

  9. DinosaurMachine11

Should have been traded. I love Kuz as much as anyone here but we have so many wingers already and this was a great asset on a dirt-cheap contract in a cap-strapped league that would’ve made the perfect deadline deal to a contender.

  10. MznNazzy19

Management deserves their criticism but I feel there would have been no way to win over the fans here no matter if they signed or traded him. Personally would have been okay either way. Not gona lose my shit over this contract though which is a fair bridge deal.

  11. krashbic

This is a disaster. More money and term to wingers when we need D and will need centers. Honestly, this is a slap in the face to fans who want this team to change and have a chance of getting better in the coming years. The knock-on effect will be another bad move such as a garland buyout or paying to get out of a contract.

Drancer is screaming uncontrollably somewhere right now

  13. Thorzehn

Props for getting him for 5.5 with how much we are paying for Brock.

  14. heytherefriendman

This is the best news I’ve heard all week

  15. sailingdrumstick

I think this is a “Keeping Petey happy” move. They need to really make a push at resigning him long term this offseason, and being shit with no vision and no good players for him to play with doesn’t exactly make for an easy conversation.

So maybe we can be shit, with a vision and at least one good player for him to play with?

  16. NerdPunch

This is objectively a really good contract.

This is objectively a really bad team.

Don’t understand the thinking here. Playing devils advocate, I guess you can still trade Kuzmenko in Y1/Y2 of the deal.. but yeah this was disappointing news.

  17. fastcurrency88

Man I love Kuz, but I think it would have been prudent to trade him at the deadline. I think with his production and cap, teams would be desperate to have him for a playoff push.

  18. EvrcrCPA

Just announce the Horvat trade already – that guy needs to be gone ASAP before getting injured

  19. awakening7

Great news! I know many wanted a trade, but watching the team this year Kuzmenko is one of the top 3 forwards on the team skill wise, really good fit with Petey as well. In recent games, I’ve noticed him several times on the back check, smart stick in lanes and breaking up defensive plays as well as his slick offensive moves.

He’s new to the NA rink, I think the next two years he will put up PPG while playing more of a smart two way game, we just locked up a sweet talent in his prime for a short 2 year deal, less money than rumoured. Finally, some good news!

  20. LonelyEconomist

Naturally, naturally. Another short-sighted poor move by the organization to keep the roster the same but not ever take meaningful steps to improve it long term.

  21. KrebsCollector

He’s back lets gooo!!! Horvat is gone that sucks, and we aren’t going to win a cup well Kuzy is here so kinda a useless signing but I love him so much

  22. eexxiitt

    Great deal.

Aligns with Petey’s contract (1 more year on his existing contract + 1 RFA year). The FO now has until the 2025 trade deadline to convince Petey that the Canucks can compete. Tall order and the clock is now ticking.

  23. steveepot

    I like the player

Other years I’d like the contract

But how does this impact their negotiations with horvat and shedding salary?

  24. ProfessorOfLogic1

What was the point of this? We keep talking about how the salary cap is handcuffing us from being able to make moves and we sign another winger to a 5+ million dollar deal?

  25. LowIQCapologist

Great another $5.5m winger. Exactly what this team needed

  26. ajslinger

My favorite Canuck by a mile and I’m stoked we signed him.

  27. anonymitylol

lmao we’re never gonna fucking break out of this pattern are we

  28. Pale_Doctor7209

That’s a nice signing. This sub is bitter no matter what it seems. If he signed for more people would be choked cause it’s to much. If he got traded people would be choked cause he was traded away. If he was signed for less, he wouldn’t be the hockey player he is. If he continues his chemistry with Petey and company, should be a great signing, with little to no risk involved other than he may be more expensive come 2 years down the road. He’s still moveable at that price and cheap for a player that could post 70-80 points.

  29. primacord

This team literally never learns, it’s fucking insane.

Love Kuzy, love his play but with where this team is both roster & cap wise WTF? Horvat & him were EZ choices to dump for picks & prospects. Really is just Jim 2.0 over here.

  30. 2BFrank69

It’s a fair contract for both sides. Now they better get a blue chipper for Bo. If we get a bunch of quantity and no quality, I’m going to shit on this management relentlessly till the next puppet comes in

  31. therocksays13

This is a great contract if the Canucks are a playoff team. Who honestly thinks the Canucks will make the playoffs in the next two seasons. Once again this team is afraid to sell high.

  32. Sinochick

If the Canucks had traded Miller at last year’s deadline/offseason and if they trade Horvat for the best offer this season, then I’d be jumping for joy at the Kuzmenko signing. My excitement level is lukewarm at best…and I really like Kuzy and I love the chemistry he has with Petey.

  33. Canucks fans are whiney, it’s getting pathetic.

  34. Signs a winger that’s twice as effective as Boeser to less money and this fan base cries. It’s also a potentially sign and trade, and weather we are retooling or rebuilding we still need players to play, kuzzy is gem and great for the culture.

Toxic fan base is toxic, why am I surprised?
