GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Sharks (01.28.23) | Crosby becomes 15th on NHL’s All-Time Scoring List

The Pittsburgh Penguins returned home to take on the San Jose Sharks in their last game before the All-Star break. San Jose jumped out to a 1-0 lead early into the first period of play but the Penguins would battle back getting a pair of goals from Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby. With his assist on Malkin’s power-play goal, Sidney Crosby passed Stan Mikita for sole possession of 15th place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. San Jose would later even up the score, 2-2, before the end of the period. The scoring continued in the second, as the Sharks regained the lead just 5 minutes in. Ryan Poehling would answer back for Pittsburgh on the shorthanded effort for his 5th goal of the season but the Sharks were able to find the back of the net again, giving them a 4-3 lead heading into intermission. The Penguins fought back in the third as Evgeni Malkin scored his 2nd goal in the contest but their effort wouldn’t be enough as San Jose walked away with a 6-4 victory.

  1. I love you pit but your not playoff team anymore it’s over and pens fans and the yinzers to accept that I am forever greatful for the memories and everything sell at the deadline zucker teddy Danton possibly brain dumo and jarry

  2. Why have a goalie getting paid 10m when he can never stay healthy in the second half of the season? Why is dumo constantly out of position? Why is teddy not scoring? Why do I still miss Phil Kessel?

If they get wildcard spot in playoffs I'm happy. It's been rebuild time.

  3. I turned it off after the 2nd period. Because I knew they were going to lose. This team makes NO effort to win. They don't even try. Correction, only a few actually try. If I was a Gm, I'd trade or DEMOTE, back to the LITTLE PENS, 3/4 of this team. Their Defense is horrible. No joke and I'm not just angry. This is the WORST defense the Pens have had since 2002. Their defense is slow as heck and trip over their skates all the time. ALWAYS out of position. I truthfully don't want the Pens to make the playoffs. Because they will just get embarrassed again and lose in the first round. They should be called the Pittsburgh NO try, one and done, Penguins.

  4. I feel like we're back in the mid 80's with these scorelines lol…Not sure how sustainable it is to have to score 5 or 6 to win each time. (Without Mario)

  5. At 4:10 how is this NOT offside!!? Puck comes out and Gregor never tags up to the line!!? And he scores? Am I missing something?

  6. feel bad for sid wasting the last few years of his career with these bums lol

casey deswiss cheese what else can you say at this point, fire hextall already

  7. Pens fans.. lets all face it. This team is going nowhere. We've been hanging on desperately pushing games to OT and losing in most cases. The defense is absolutely ridiculously BAD. Turnover after turnover in our own zone constantly costing momentum. Always having to come from behind after slow starts. I was all for keeping the big 3 together, but it looks as though the supporting cast just isn't enough to get this team to the next level. This team has heart but it is just not enough to fix the obvious issues. Time to move people. I'm not a bad fan, just a realist. Tons of talent on this team individually, but it just isn't coming together. With the upcoming schedule I see the Pens losing their wildcard position. No march of the Penguins this year im afraid 😔

  8. Well keep fighting pens. Season isn’t over and still can make something happen. Though I feel like it’s the end of an era as the Steelers where. Yes Sid geno tanger still here but it’s not the same around.

  9. Rough night for DeSmith again. Hopefully Jarry comes back in time for the Avalanche game in February. I did like some of the opportunities our offense had as well as Poehling's Shorthanded. Hoping this All-Star break will be what we need to fend the Sabres, Panthers, and the eastern conference from our wild card or from a Metropolitan spot.
