I watched THG do a 2018 redraft last night. We took zadina at 6 and Joe veleno at 31. In the redraft the wings would take Quinn Hughes at 6 which I’m sure no one would complain about. Joe veleno falls to 32 instead, zadina falls out of the first round, and berggren jumps to 13th!
Overall that still turned out to be a solid draft for us. Zadina wasn’t the only player to drop out of the first entirely either.
Edit, I wanted this comment to focus on bergy not zadina, dang it, look at the positives!
Out of curiosity, what do you think our return for Larkin would be? Obviously I want to keep him long term, but Yzerman will absolutely entertain trades if they’re offered.
WWP said Raty hasn’t quite lived up to his expectations (that’s how I interpreted their take anyhow) but I’m wondering why people think this. Isn’t this his D+2 year? He’s played like 20 total games and he’s already being seen as needing a change of scenery?
gonna be honest, i haven’t been keeping up with hockey much the last couple of months. been focusing on other things, but it really opened my eyes to how terrible the NHL is at marketing, all my social media is very sports oriented and i couldn’t tell you a damn thing that’s been going on in the NHL but i could tell you about any other sport. for example i just learned the all star game is happening in 2 days, and i found out by checking this subreddit right now. i did see that viewership is rapidly declining and i can absolutely see why

Zadina to GR is the best thing for him I feel. I hold faith and hope the best for him, preseason Zadina was hopeful.

It’s a sad day when both the stickied posts are general discussion threads.
News came out yesterday that NHL American viewership is down around 20% this year. u/ofwgtylor mentioned below noticing a lack of hockey marketing while taking a break even though they have a sport-centric social media presence. This game lacks the institutional and multi-generational connection in this country that other sports have. We have the challenges of watching this game including having to purchase various resources to watch every game. Bally circling the drain adds another hurdle that should be viewed as an opportunity for NHL execs. In this era we have the revenue sharing/flat cap that’s deflating possible free agency and trade deadline excitement. This game faces so many natural challenges to gain and retain viewership in the US but it seems that execs (and sometimes the NHLPA) get in their own way too fucking often. This game is so beautiful at its best and it has more excitement per minute than any other team sport. It’s a damn shame that the league is always so short sighted.
I got to go see Bedard in action last night. Even with the goal, set up of tying goal and shootout winner, it looked like he was having an off night. Not sure if there was some lingering injury or tired from a back to back, but he seemed slow out there and not fully engaged.
All this to say wings fans get your hopes up cause from this one game I think he is going to drop to us at our inevitable 8-10 pick!
This is absolutely me twisting stats to make myself feel better but if you look at the month of January and remove the one really bad game Cossa had he put up a .919 save%. That one bad game (6 goals on 12 shots) tanked his save% to a .895.
He also has a .944 in the 3 games since that bad game.
Went to the Spirit vs Flint Game last night. Big win for Saginaw to snap an 8 game losing streak, not only to get a win but to win the I-75 divide cup. Misa lived up to the hype, and from watching him I noticed his Hockey IQ is super high. Parekh scored twice in 19 seconds and is now second in goals scored by a 16 year old defenseman in OHL history.
Now for my one gripe: I’m all for having fun and enjoying the game and even a little bit of trash talk. But for some Flint fans yell out every single time Saginaw got back to even strength: “And they still suck!” was a bit classless to me. These are 15-19 year old kids out there, that’s not a cool thing to do.
Anyway! Had a great time and the win was the cherry on top.
Curious if Zadina ends up back with the big team or if they waive him to stay in GR for some extra seasoning.
I don’t think he’d get claimed but you never know. Yes a young highly drafted 1st round pick on a good contract.
Wishful thinking but the best thing we could hope for coming out of this break (for the future of this team) is Seider coming out and looking like a borderline generational D
What’s everyone listening to lately? The last few weeks have been very Audioslave-heavy for me and last night I listened to Alanis’ Jagged Little Pill for the first time beyond “You Oughta Know” and I really like it.
