  1. Jersey tie downs were a common thing with the Phoenix Roadrunners back in the mid to late 1970s, and This was something the Kenneth "Doc" Fleger, who was a Trainer/ equipment man for the Roadrunners and then he would eventually get hired by the Vancouver Canucks. He also designed and put together a chest protector similar to a Goalie or catchers chest protector for Roadrunners' defenseman! And a prolific shot blocker for the Roadrunners Jim Niekamp who passed away last October. He was such a good person, always a smile and a good story. RIP Jim "Shitter" Niekamp. And I don't think there's in today's game that could hold up his jockstrap as far as the guts it took to sacrifice his body. He could've been a highly paid player in today's game.
Ken "Doc" found his home in the Boston Garden, where he ended his career after starting with The Salt Lake city Golden Eagles in 1972 or so. And he made it to The Hockey Hall of Fame as a Boston Bruin. No better skate sharpener and could always solve a Player's problem.
I, was fortunate to make fast friends with his son's and the entire family. His sons all became Firefighters paramedics and served the East Valley Mesa Fire Department for decades. Still best friends to this day. My apologie, Shannon, for the miniature novel. If you even read these comments, being as busy as you are.

  2. I remember Gino Odjick and Sandy Mccarthy doing an interview about being native in the nhl yrs ago. The reason why I remember the interview was because Sandy said the 1st time he was on a reserve was with Gino. I respected the fact that they were both talking about native rights in the 90s. At least that's how I remember it and if I'm wrong please point it out to me respectfully.

  3. Maybe I'm a little biased because he comes from my community, but I do think Gino deserves a spot in the Canucks' Ring of Honour. First and only drafted Canuck so far to ever reach 2000 career PiMs.

  4. from all accounts odjick was a pillar of the community and a standup guy off the ice. therefore, that asshole prima donna messier and his butt buddy keenan drove him out of town, like every other popular player for the mid-90s canucks.

  5. There was some great stories on hfboards about gino. I was only born in 89. But I do remember bits and pieces as a kid. RIP Canucks legend. Embodied the spirit of a Canuck. Sad to see the product now.

  6. Literally just re-watched the Ice Guardians documentary today, and Gino was an important part. RIP.
also, if you havent seent that documentary, go watch it now

  7. Gino was also a big reason why #7 my favorite Little Cliff Ronning and Pavel were able to have so much room out there. RIP Gino…Gino…Gino

  8. We loved Hellberg here in Seattle so I sure hope we would have grabbed him! I mean why wouldn't we want to carry Jones, Grubauer, Driedger, Hellberg, and Daccord? That's not too many goalies to have is it? 🤔😉😂

  9. You should talk about Vrana's struggles in AHL, he's been a healthy scratch for a couple games now

  10. Norris graduated from our little town, Oxford High School. My daughter is a freshman there now. I would love to see him come back strong and be successful.

  11. I remember Gino in Montreal just a great guy off the ice and someone who always laid everything out there on it.. rest easy

  12. Greatly looking forward to Gino career video. I didn't get the pleasure of watching him play (I was barely born when the '94 cup run happened) But everything I've ever heard and seen had made him my favorite all-time Canuck. Been a Canucks fan since I started watching hockey (in about '08), and even with watching the great '11 team I still have Gino as my favorite.

  13. I feel bad for Ned, he needs to regain confidence, when a goalie hangs his head after every goal he’s in a defeated mindset, hopefully he can get some good work in Grand Rapids, but I can live with hellberg and husso, it’s nice to have an actual NHL level tandem in net for once.

  14. Ottawa has been playing with their lines all year trying to make something work. They need consistency and DJ out.

  15. I’m remember everyone dunking on Carolina when they let Ned go and brought in Freddy Andersen. Also all the “Yzerman is a genius and just fleeced Carolina”. Looks like Carolina knew what they were doing and Yzerman may not always have the Midas touch.

  16. Thank you for the words on Gino, I'm an Aboriginal player (Gomeroi nation) from Australia who looked up to Gino back in the mid 1990s when I was first introduced to ice hockey by my tutor (she was from Victoria BC). RIP Gino #29

  17. Remember all the crowing that Wings fans did about Yzerman stealing Carolina's future when he signed Nedeljkovic? How did that work out?

  18. Thankyou Gino, for all the entertaining hockey you gave me, you were like a locomotive on the ice, but under control. Your hits were heavy and they were hard. This Jet fan appreciated what you brought to the rink every game. You will always be remembered by me and all the others you were important to and an inspiration to. You are now an ancestor.

  19. It may be time for NHL GMs to discuss the so-called waivers rule so that players who are waived are one day those organizations no longer want them, with GMs allowed to send players who they want to keep within their organizations simply down to their minor-league affiliates (or to their major junior teams for players still in major junior leagues).
