Eric Staal leaves the game after a big hit from Mike Matheson
Montreal Canadiens’ Mike Matheson hits Eric Staal to the head with a big hit and went to the locker room and never came back in the game. In French on RDS. I do not own any rights.
Obviously a cheap shot, not even near the puck and he led with his helmet into Staal's face. No wonder Panthers starting trying to run the Habs when you do that to a respected Vet. Wonder if Matheson didn't like Staal when teammates its a pretty low class move.
The might be a little incidental head contact, but that's a hit through the body.
And reversals are part of hockey. I get why a team wouldn't be thrilled to watch their dude get levelled with a surprise reversal. But that's not a dirty play.
Did anyone in the comments actually watch the game? Cause if so you might realize that this game had some of the worst reffing I have ever seen and this wasn’t even the beginning nor the end of it.
Whole game was rigged in their favor, 6-7 blatent attempts to injure (one by staal, legit 4-5minutes before this, it surprised me…but I just knew someone was gonna get him for it)…and we're supposed to feel bad seeing him get rocked….? Stay down lmao
Two players pursuing the puck into the corner have the ability to initiate body contact before either reaches the puck. Such is the way of da rules. You may not like it but this as clean as can be

that’s AT MOST a 2min interference call. Staal is 40, hasn’t he learn to expect physical contact when going in the corners?😂
Hardly dirty, if anything interference but Staal is a veteran that should know thats coming you see that play every game.

Matheson had not acquired possession of the puck at the time of the hit. That's 2 minutes for interference.

Apparently the league thinks otherwise by fining him 5,000.
