So Lou Lamoriello and the New York Islanders just announced signing their newly acquired player in Bo Horvat to an 8 year 8.5 million dollar deal. But Lou apparently didn’t like his own deal saying it was for too long and for too much money giving us one of the most hilarious GM quotes I’ve heard. I cover this and my thoughts on the signing in todays NHL hockey video!

Rather have Horvat than Miller
Canucks fan here… I’d switch the Horvat/Miller deal in a heartbeat. Horvat will be worth that money in character alone. Miller keeps putting a blemish on the teams reputation with his attitude.
I'd take horvat over Miller even at that price tag
Vancouver fan here. $8.5 mil is a bit much, but Horvat is better personality-wise than Miller. $8 mil for 8 years I definitely would have been okay with, and losing Miller doubly so.
Would you rather have the Islanders roster or the Rangers roster for the next 5 years?
I look forward to Bo falling on his face inside of the next 2 years . Unless you're Sidney Crosby or Alex Oveckin you ain't worth 8 mil a season. And here I thought the era of over paying for players was dead . My bad .
8 years is just too long maybe 4×8 would be fine but 8×8 is way too long
$8.5M a year is too much for anybody i any profession
good contract for Horvat, not so much for islanders
Lou is talking about all modern contracts.
This is the best NYI signing in over a decade. Yes they overpaid, but after losing out on Johnny Hockey, they had to rebound.
i don’t understand… the Canucks were only going to offer him around 6 million a year. So Bo got what he wanted. This is what the NHL and MLB do, sign Long deals for medium value. But why all the years. I doubt we see him in a NY Islanders Sweater for a full 8 yrs.
He will be the Center on the 1st line and Matt Barzal on the wing, i can almost guarantee it
Horvat >>> Miller
ALL FN DAY!!!!
Lou is somewhat nuts but I think what he’s saying he’s being blown out of proportion.
He’s not saying that Bo didn’t get market value for what he’s doing. What he is saying is that the contract is too long and too expensive for players producing at Horvat‘s level.
It’s kind of like saying eggs are too expensive because of inflation . It’s not the eggs fault. The eggs are getting their value in the market. He’s just thinks that that value is too high.
them getting this deal done so early tells me they are desperate to push for a playoff spot
hes 60+ point player. thats first line production. hes not a second line center lol
The Islanders WILL make the playoffs. Period.
Another contract that makes Tage Thompson's deal look even more like a steal.
Did we learn nothing from the pk subban contract?
Horvat is worth the money compared to Miller!!!!
Yeah well, Lou doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Bo has been the image of consistent two way play his whole career for vancouver. Absolute steal for those guys. Even if he falls off near the end of his deal, he's never been a volume scorer. He's a stout presence who makes plays, defends, and puts goals in on the power play. Ungrateful jerk..
Lmao I hope the Islanders miss the playoffs. Lou is losing his mind.
Look at the cap and contract structure for the years ahead! Only contenders have that kind of contract profile. It's a sinking team. Lmao. Good luck unloading all of those big contracts when the time inevitably comes to rebuild. They are barely better than Philly in the standings, LMAO.
Lou will be 89 years old when this contract ends, so it is very likely that this contract will outlive Lou
Definitely rather have Horvat than Miller
These long term high value contracts for players in their late 20s/ early 30s have been happening a lot over the past two years. These will end up biting teams in the ass in coming years. Maybe they are all banking on a big change to salary cap limits in the coming years.
2mil too much
to be fair, that kovalchuk deal probably would have been pretty good for a few more years had he stuck around.
Bo is a great 50-60 point player having an amazing year. Overpay even for next year.
He's def not going to produce the goals/points he did in Vancouver over with the Islanders. Just my opinion as NYI are already a heavy defensive team
I think every Canuck fan would take Horvat at his price over Miller at his.
Isles don't make the playoffs? Are you nuts? They were solidly in until the injuries. Now Pelech, Palmieri and Dobson will be back, and they are just 2 points out with a game in hand on Washington. Holmstrom should be back too, but it looks like Clutter and Wahlstrom are done for the season.
I heard some interview where it was said that Raty's bad year was due to him losing interest in hockey and his commitment falling off badly. If true, that's a bad sign. At best, he'll be a Pageau type, low scoring defensive center who doesn't have as good a FO percentage.
Irony is a player works hard to Score goals to make his bio data look good and after the fish bites the bait the player has no problemo . He has the golden key to the safe
your last question is a trick question. I would rather neither and Bo like trades for both.
Does this mean that Lou is planning to trade Bo?
Why is he complaining didn’t he sign the contract?
The Canucks management knew Petterson and Hughes were going to take over the leadership of the team from Horvat. In other words, Horvat had to leave at the end of this season or fairly soon after, from the Canucks management perspective. In a way, Canucks management are glad Horvat could be traded for more value. So it is not a question of comparing the contracts of Horvat and Miller. Also, Canucks need scoring, and Miller was the better long term choice over Horvat. Finally, Canucks management does not like the laid back culture of the Canucks team, and Horvat was the captain of the Canucks, so Horvat was essentially blamed for the laid back culture. For these reasons, Horvat was not extended by the Canucks for what Horvat wanted to get paid, and Horvat was traded at his peak market value.
I would much prefer having Bo, than Miller. Honestly.
I don’t hate Miller or anything but… yeah, I’d rather have Bo.
