Andrew Destin joins the show and there are a lot of Pittsburgh Penguins related topics to discuss!

Hunter has a new guest on Locked On Penguins for this Monday episode. That’s right, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joins the show to touch on numerous topics. They start by getting into Ron Hextall’s comments during his press conference on Sunday and Andrew’s main takeaways from it. Hunter then looks at how Hextall has to be lying when he says he likes the team on paper because it was flawed coming into this season and it’s shown that in a big way thus far. The two also discuss what move Hextall could be looking to make at the deadline and how a revamp of the third line remains the biggest priority. After that, the two get into the returns of Kasperi Kapanen and Josh Archibald and how they could make a difference for this team’s forward group (especially Archibald on the fourth line). Finally, the two have a discussion about the game on Tuesday against the Colorado Avalanche and what the keys will be for the Penguins to win that game, plus how this upcoming road trip might make or break this season.

  1. With much of the hockey media saying that Jakub Vrana has, most likely, played his last game in Detroit, would it be worth the Pens to look into him, if Detroit retains some salary. He's a prospective 30 to 40 goal scorer, and is under contract for next season, also.
What about someone like Alex Nedelkovic? He was third in Calder voting in Carolina, played well, in Detroit, last season, but struggled in eight games, this season before being injured and getting sent down on a conditioning assignment.
Here's another "how 'bout?" for you….Joonas Korpisalo. He's struggled a bit, this season, but can be a very solid goalie, setting records for most saves in a game because he's played on some really poor defensive Blue Jackets teams.

  2. Great listen as always. Agree about DOC being in the line up regularly. He should be on the third line with Kap (DOC-Carter-Kap) and shift McGinn down for a mcginn/peohling- bleuger- archy fourth line. You maximize the speed and forecheck element with kap and DOC while also having two players on that line who can take draws. Plus, this possibly allows carter to start putting some pucks in the net as a result of DOC hard work like Hiennen was doing that last couple weeks. Instead they just default back to something that has no energy/identity/life.
