GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Kings (02.11.23) | Penguins Play Second Game of West Coast Road Trip

The Penguins played their second game on their west coast trip Saturday night against the Los Angels Kings. Jaret Anderson-Dolan opened up the scoring for the Kings with a deflection past Casey DeSmith. For a while, the period remained quiet until Alex Iafallo put the second puck past DeSmith. The 2nd period did not go as the Penguins would have hoped. Adrian Kempe scored only two minutes into the period. The Penguins switched up their goaltending and Dustin Tokarski replaced Desmith. Kempe and the Kings took advantage of the cold goaltender and would make the score 4-0 five minutes into the 2nd. Later in the period, the Penguins took a penalty and again Kempe took advantage and in a single period scored a natural hat trick. The period ended 5-0 in favor of the Kings. With the Penguins taking 30 PIM this game, that was plenty of time for the Kings to capitalize on the power play. Once again, Kempe would score on the power play for his fourth of the night. The game ended 6-0.

  1. Garrett Rank (Ref and Amateur Golfer) has a vandedita against Sidney Crosby. Pretty sure this is the 2nd or 3rd game he either threw Sid out or gave him a misconduct.

  2. We can we finally have a defense and a goalie. And I'm not even talking about Jarry. He gets hurt to the point where I've never seen him play a full season from start to finish

  3. Wow desmith absolutely awful tender just gna say it, I don't believe this team will keep the playoff steak going this year. We r going to be just out of it, I think 4th in division this year

  4. I live in northern Europe, and because of the time difference I watch these Pens recaps when I'm eating my morning oatmeal. I like my oatmeal with butter and honey and nowadays it just doesn't taste the same without a big scoop of frustration! 🥰 Thanks Pens for for ruining most of my mornings! Keep up the bad work! 💪

  5. Very rough night for the goaltending and even worse night for the offense. After youre down by five without a goal I understood the frustration as we withdrew penalty after penalty with Crosby being ejected. I feel part of the loss comes to how the prior game went how we were dominating a low end team where this game was a much tougher matchup. Hoping the Pens can use Sunday and Monday to prepare for the Shark Tank on Tuesday.

This was the first time the Penguins have been shutout in regulation season. Other teams yet to be shutout in regular season include the New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

  6. NOT the way you make the playoffs . Too many ties and games that they take the night off . Funny how they play like this when they go to cities with warm climates . Maybe stay out of the Strip Clubs and Bars ?

  7. Hextall has had enough time to try to secure a legitimate 1B goalie for this team. DeSmith has a .903 save percentage on the season which is pretty terrible compared to Jarry’s .921. The more DeSmith plays as a defacto starter with Jarry injured, the worse his play gets. Even the coaching staff understood this as DeSmith rarely got starts with Jarry healthy. DeSmith can play well with limited starts and when the coaching staff can match him against weaker opponents but that’s it. The fact that Hextall, a former goalie, couldn’t identify this team need is a total failure and explains why he got fired as Philly’s GM.

  8. I'm convinced hextall is here to sabotage the penguins not make them better. Look at the other teams in the division bettering themselves by making moves and Ronny is just sitting on his hands.

  9. I think even "Play second game of West Coast Road Trip" is perhaps overstating things. There was a second game, and it certainly happened, but we didn't play it.

  10. Refs dug the Penguins a hole they could not climb out of. I didn't think the Pens would come out of LA with a win to begin with, but the officiating in this one from the start was terrible. Alot of bad calls and a massive amount of no calls for slashing and hooking the entire game. The NHL was so focused on reducing slashing but obviously were looking the other way in this one…I'm really surprised there were no gloves dropped in this one. Regroup and get ready for the Sharks.
