Report them all honestly, it really is fricking terrible for them to be acting like Ovi is something bad. He literally Just lost his father yesterday. they are being so inconsiderate of Ovi

  2. I got banned from r/hockey for taking provorovs side.

  3. FunkyJMan

The upvotes on the stupid posts and the downvoted on the nice ones really show you that r/hockey is shit

  4. MadMcMuffin

I screenshotted multiple comments that were way too far, such as saying that they hoped Ovi’s dad suffered when he died and another that “fuck Ovechkin, I hope he loses more family members”

  5. natguy2016

I was in that thread. Anyone doing more than saying condolences is just an asshole.

  6. Calm-Associate-214

These are the same people that were ok with the Iraq war.

  7. I really hope Putin is dead when he passes Gretzky. The multiple photo ops Ovi will have to do with Putin will ruin and tarnish his amazing achievement.

  8. Joshottas

Thankfully the real world doesn’t operate like the comment section of that sub-reddit. Just a bunch of hypocritical, pathetic keyboard warriors.

  9. saltyfingas

The subreddit is full of trash takes and people that need to go touch some grass. Easily one of the worst hockey communities on the internet

  10. UnderCoverDoughnuts

r/Hockey is just a group of upvote-thirsty clowns smelling their own farts and saying whatever will get them a few points of karma, regardless as to whether or not they believe what they’re saying.

I’d wager dollars to doughnuts half the “fuck Ovi” crowd are secretly rooting him to bet Gretzky’s record and entirely indifferent towards the war in Ukraine.

how come we have so many moronic hockey fans these days?? my god, with comments like those you’d think that Ovechkin has said he supports killing Ukranians… the war has nothing to do with Ovechkin. period.

  12. brady_t12

I’ve given up trying to make any points about it online. In my close friend group in my real life that includes caps and penguins fans, we can have a nuanced conversation about it. That is not possible online. People can be ignorant and it is what it is. You’d think ovechkin is the one leading armies into Ukraine. People look for whatever perceived moral high ground they have. I will not bash ovechkin nor will I disrespect his family over something he is not in favor of, especially during one of the most difficult life events you can deal with.

  13. BunkDruckeyes

Don’t give them the time of day! And honestly it’s
really a hot button topic and people can get emotional. The internet is so big that it brings us to people who you really don’t agree with you at all and they can be as nasty as they want about it. It’s up to you to respond well and brush them off.

  14. ProngedPickle

I don’t care to defend Ovi for his support of Putin during the Crimean annexation in 2014. That said, what started out as condemnation of his being silent (for the most part) on the war since it began has been twisted into a claim that he’s vocally and proudly supportive of Putin and Russia in their warmongering, as shown in these snapshots alone.

  15. Bramblinman

Would love to see these morons condemn the all powerful war monger leader of their country if they had family still living there. Ovi has been silent but the people that haven’t get thrown out windows on a regular basis. Also do we want to talk about the human cost of all the Chinese made devices they used to post their vitriol?

  16. h00rayforstuff

lmfao at the guy with the Canes flare like they didn’t go to the Bush White House after they won the cup

  17. YoureNoDaisy2013

Unfortunately, this is Reddit and heard/ hive mentality reins supreme. Many aren’t capable of independent critical thought and can’t comprehend nuance. It’s sad that Ovi’s pop died and my condolences go out to him and his family. Personally, I don’t give a shit about the Ukraine/ Russia conflict. I feel bad for all the innocent people that have been thrust into it, but let’s not forget that not even 3-4 years ago there were floods of articles being written about the corruption, racism etc… taking place in Ukraine. The ability for people to memory hole things truly is astounding.

Anyways, condolences to the Ovi family, even though I’m still sour about them beating the Bruins haha. Hope y’all have a great evening and don’t let the scum of bullshit “social” media drag you down.

  18. Spraynpray89

Meh. Basically every team out there has a Russian player on it who never commented on the war (only 2 or 3 did at all, and Ovi was one). They need to go look in the mirror for sure, but it’s whatever. Just making themselves look dumb on the internet. Move along.

  19. Not a Caps fan, but it’s so strange how many unflaired users that have zero r/Hockey post history were in those threads condoning people

    *Real strange*

  20. TommyHamburger

If you hate /r/hockey so much, stop reading it. Stop commenting. Stop sharing it here.

Otherwise you’re just doing the same thing, spreading vitriol while pretending this subreddit is somehow above it all.

  21. HereInTheCut

They don’t actually care about the war. They’re in it for the cheap karma their echo chamber of fools provides.

  22. Big_Daddy_Herbie

These people are so war hungry on the side of Ukraine is actually pretty sick.

Turns out war crimes are ok as long as you call the enemy “Orks” watched a video of a Ukraine drone dropping nerve gas on some poor kid the other day

  23. bigatrop

Honestly who cares. They are mostly dumb kids who don’t care about hockey. The majority of the adult population doesn’t share their views.

  24. ADKRep37

Did we forget what happened to Panarin? He’s a vocal Putin critic who had to pack up his family from Russia and then the Russians still came up with a bullshit story about him sexually assaulting a girl when he was a kid because they wanted to destroy his career and platform. Ovechkin’s entire family is in Russia most of the time, he can’t afford to say a word against Putin unless he feels like having polonium end up in his wife’s coffee.

Wasting your time and energy. Life is too short.
