Dumb article. Why would we trade Elvis at his absolute lowest value? This shouldn’t even be a discussion until after the end of next season. If anything have tarasov come in and be the starter next year. Jackets don’t need the cap space for the foreseeable future so it’s better to see if he can rebound. He’s already looked better his last 5 or so games

The only way I can see is trading Elvis is if the FO truly believes he needs a change of scenery and can find a team in a similar situation. I like Elvis and I hope he bounces back, but if he just can’t get it going here, it’s smart to move on before it gets too late.
I know another user on here proposed a Elvis for Demko swap. A move like this could make sense, as long as it didn’t cost too much.
The most likely is that we just stick with Elvis and hope for the bounce back, or he becomes a very expensive backup.

There’s no good outcome here. You either trade assets to dump Elvis, retain a ton of salary, or buy him out. All resulting in bad cap hits or sacrificing the teams future to get rid of what will likely be a very bad goalie contract. The best course is probably to stick with Elvis, hope he recovers his form down this last stretch and into next year.. and if not… well… Elvis becomes an overpaid backup and we ride Tarasov into what would be a very expensive RFA contract.

You can’t move him. There is no team in the NHL that would give up anything for him even at half his salary. Goalies like him are a dime a dozen, just because he has a big personality doesn’t make him good.

I don’t think Elvis is going anywhere for the foreseeable future. I saw someone say to think of your goalies’ contracts together and he and Tarasov are about $6.5mil combined thru 24/25 season. That’s not that bad for a goalie tandem. Sure he’ll be an overpriced backup if Tarasov becomes the starter but it’s a hit i can live with for a bit and then buy him out or trade him when Tarasov gets a raise and then Elvis’ contract isn’t as bad of a hit. Ideally he figures everything out and becomes a #1 goalie (starting next season) but getting rid of him now doesn’t make a ton of sense to me

Why don’t we look at a new goalie coach? I think that would be a good first solution and a lot less expensive

My favorite comment after talking about how Tarasov and Korpi play a more positional game which is why they’ve had more success. “It’s an inexperience issue” in regardless to Elvis. He’s 28 years old for fuck sakes. When is this narrative that he’s young and going to figure things out going to stop? When he’s 38 and still overplaying everything 10 feet out of his crease?
His time to figure it out is over, you can’t play like him and be successful in this league. He made a big bankroll off playing behind a Torts defensive system. It’s time to move on, now the only question is how? Because that contract is unmovable unless you’re making some one take him on as a part of some bigger trade.
