GAME RECAP: Penguins at Islanders (02.17.23) | Crosby Gets 13th Season With 25+ Goals

Finishing up their fourth road game in seven days, the Penguins took on the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. Sidney Crosby started the scoring halfway through the 1st period. Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin stopped the initial shot, but the puck fell under him, uncovered. Crosby spotted the loose puck and slammed it into the net. That point also marked the 13th time Crosby has scored 25+ goals in a season. The Islanders quickly responded with a goal of their own to tie the score at 1-1. The 2nd period was a busy one. Rickard Rakell opened the period with his first of the night, making it 2-1 for Pittsburgh. Jake Guentzel assisted on Rakell’s tally, giving him 50 points thus far in the season. Jason Zucker followed Rakell’s lead, tipping a shot from P.O. Joesph, and increasing the Penguins’ lead at 3-1. Ten minutes later, the Islanders applied some pressure and scored their second of the game. After some back-and-forth play, Rakell, with a minute left in the middle frame, scored his second of the night… But, the Islanders answered 30 seconds later to end the period, 4-3, in favor of the Penguins. As the 3rd period played on, the Islanders took advantage of a power-play opportunity and used it as a momentum switch. New York scored to tie the game at 4-4. Off a neutral-zone faceoff late in the 3rd, the Islanders put a fifth puck in the net to take the lead. The Islanders won 5-4.

  1. Yeah I believe it’s good as over, I don’t think this team can win another cup let alone playoff series so I’m just gonna enjoy any win we can get

  2. Been too spoiled with good goalies the last few years so that now we cant defend properly. Cant leave people open for good shots on net.

  3. Anyone that says Desmith is a good backup goalie has been proven definitively false. Every other game, he has a stinker of a performance in net. You can't honestly tell me that playing great one night and terrible the next is acceptable. He is a very average goaltender at this point and anyone who thinks otherwise is simply delusional. The jig is up, he needs traded.

  4. What is actually wrong with Carter and Kapanen and even McGinn to some extent? Ship their buts out of Pittsburgh before these embarrassments of hockey players make the Penguins a laughstock of the league. This 3rd line is nothing but a tragedy. You could throw 3 Wilkes-Barre Scranton players on the 3rd line and have more total points production than these 3. I honestly feel bad for the top 6 forwards. They deserve way better than this bottomfeeder level of production from the bottom 6 forwards.

  5. Ну как так то( всю игру выигрывать, быть лучше, и проиграть сопернику 4 очка. (

  6. Gotta feel bad for the boys tonight they played amazing but Casey just couldn’t help us out!!!we need better goaltending badly!!!!

  7. Simply awful. The only thing good out of this kind of play is that it improves our position for the draft.

  8. Beyond disappointing for penguins fans. This has been the theme all year. Blowing two goal leads all year long. They had two different two goal leads in this game and couldn’t even get to overtime for one point at least. In the biggest game of the year so far. Jake has been quiet all year and our third line hasn’t been great

  9. 45 shots on goal and we still lose? Just shows how bad our defense is when we give up games like this all the time. So predictable!
