GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Devils (02.18.23) | Malkin Joins 20-Goal Club

For the second evening in a row, the Penguins squared off against a divisional opponent. Evgeni Malkin got the scoring started just over three-and-a-half minutes into the contest, netting his 20th goal of the season. Malkin became the fourth member of the Penguins to reach the 20-goal milestone this season, and this was Geno’s 14th time overall scoring at least 20 goals. Mercer answered back for New Jersey before the end of the opening period, tying things up, 1-1. In the 2nd period, Hamilton gave the Devils a 2-1 lead, and the visiting team wouldn’t look back from that point forward. Hischier scored on a 2-on-1 shorthanded to make it 3-1 in favor of New Jersey. In the 3rd period, Bratt extended the lead for the visiting team, 4-1. Evgeni Malkin notched his second tally of the contest after he found a gap in the Devils’ coverage and was able to enter the offensive zone unimpeded before writing one past the netminder Vanecek. Hischier scored his second goal of the game into an empty net, and that would take this game to the final score of 5-2.

  1. As I said last night I love my pens but this team would not survive a best of 7 they been giving up way too many goals lately. The depth is weak bottom six the top six is only ones that’s score there old aging I say sell at the deadline as been saying teddy zucker Danton josh possibly dumo and jarry trade get something may not be much better than nothing don’t trade first round pick any picks pjo Samuel and other young assets I am forever grateful for everything memories 3 cups 4 cup finals 5 eastern conference finals back to back runs winter classic had new one this year and stadium series I am forever happy and greatful but this not a playoffs team and fans yinzers need to realize it will be werid no playoffs first time as a pen fan since 08 season but I am forever grateful

  2. It's been pretty clear since the beginning that this season is going to be about milestones, memories and man I wish we had gotten Fleury back…not about the Cup.

  3. Man this stinks thankfully theyve been games in hand and other teams in the hunt havent been stellar but dang

  4. Not a great look for our offense tonight besides some of the Crosby line and Geno's double. Our goaltending will likely force us to score much to win much until Jarry shuts the gates again. This Devil's team has been phenomenal this season so our lackluster play overwhelmed us for sure. Not the best game but it could've went more south. Looking forward to rematching the Isles on Monday to either push them back in the wildcard or dethrone us from the wildcard.

  5. I thought I was a penguins fan, but if I'm being honest with myself, I'm more of a Crosby Malkin fan. Don't really care for anyone else in that team.

  6. At this point we might as well tank for a lottery ball. At least if we miss playoffs we have a shot at drafting Bedard.

Anyone that thinks this team is making it past the first round is living in a fantasy land.

  7. Goaltending has been a weakness for years and I personally would have loved to see a bit of youth and speed added for the future, but realistically who could they had gotten, and what do they have to trade with? Don't know if it's Burke or Hextall calling the shots there or of it's Sully or the core drawing up the lines earlier this season but it is what it is and the players should be capable enough, so what the hell's going on here? Core's performance and time is wasting; can't go out like this. Where's the pride?

  8. An I love this team malkin Crosby rust Letang, jake guentzl ,I even like some of the other players but man we need some other lines to step up
