I guess Maurice tried to go off road mudding with this "Lamborghini" of a team that "any coach could've won with last season." I hope you guys are truly enjoying being rid of Brunette. LOL
Boring game, disgusting season. Tiring to watch this team. Zito, FIX already the problem YOU created by hiring this coach! Face it and fix it!!! EVERYTHING is falling apart! Look at the Jets after Maurice is gone.
I don't think half of you realize we had 29 comebacks last year. It wasn't like we were dominating teams every single night. We were down in so many games like we are now, difference is due to basic statistics, last year was UNSUSTAINABLE. This downward spiral did NOT start with the trade or Paul being hired, it has been here since the Gallant firing and last year was the ultimate cover up. Last years playoffs was a perfect example of the glaring issues that were still present. The 2021 season was a fluke due to the Central division being shit besides Carolina, and remember Tampa had half of their team out for the whole season. And look what happened the eight matchups we played against the one real team we had to face… Carolina. The fully healthy Tampa squad exposed us in Round One. I kept saying last season and the season before, this team is not a great team and everyone laughed at my face. Now, blow up this team and rebuild using DEFENSIVE tactics. Draft a true franchise goalie and defense and worry about offense later. Defense and goaltending is more valuable than offense… change my mind when I say the 2021-22 Florida Panthers were the worst presidents trophy team to ever exist.
The issue is our defense and lack of attack. Maurice's system is allowing guys to come into our zone untouched. We are 4th in NHL in goals for but 27th in goals against, whereas last year we were middle-of-pack. Last year, we would attack and pressure in neutral zone, which forced the other team's D to stay back and then get them with the counter-attack. I don't know the names of plays and X's and O's, cuz last i played was 2002 but someone correct me if i am wrong? Lastly, we cannot win a game if we cannot win a faceoff.
PS: Stu is right about our style of play last year compared to this year. Guys just didnt step up. Tampa had a vision and kept same coach (Cooper) after they missed playoffs the year after making cup finals. So i will just leave that there…
This is systemic and goes beyond coaching, systems and GM's. Also, I think Q is gonna come back; Zito and Q made deal with Bettman. Zito hired Maurice as filler until Q could make it back…

I can agree with stu in that if Zito wants to keep Maurice, we need to blow up the team. This roster is CLEARLY just not built for his scheme and game plan. Besides that fact, Maurice alone is just a bad coach, repeatedly makes weird choices, is incredibly stubborn when it comes to adjustments, and overplays veteran "grit" guys that look like pylons out on the ice. It's infuriating that guys like staal and smith are getting 20+ minutes on ice every game meanwhile our prospects like denisenko miss on one scoring chance and they don't show up for another 3 weeks. No SHIT we can never develop on our prospects. We never give them any goddamn ice time!
I was of the opinion that this roster was capable of making the playoffs with any decent coach, and was not too worried about the brunette firing and Maurice hire. Now that the season is over, I am shocked at how bad coaching has been, how awful roster mismanagement has been, and how horribly inconsistent we are game to game. It's EMBARRASSING. We went front top of the league to close to worst in the span of 9 months. That doesn't just happen! That isn't just a fluke that we move on from next season! That shows incredible mismanagement by the top in this franchise. From coaching, from front office, from staff, from the GM.
I'm tired of the "this isn't the same team/roster" excuse. Bullshit. The biggest change was loosing hubey and weegar. While we might be missing weegar, we have CLEARLY upgraded from hubey in Tkachuk. Other than that, our primary core is still here. Guys like marchment, giroux, etc, while great addition, were merely that, just supplementary pieces. Losing them isn't supposed to tank our team. Expecting losing them to give us this result is like expecting the leafs to be terrible by losing Holl and Engvall.
That means we have COMPLETELY fumbled the bag on coaching. On execution. It's been a complete management disaster.
Add to this, there is ZERO accountability in this org! I have seen no one in Panthers media asking hard questions, no one pointing fingers, no one applying any pressure at all towards Maurice and Zito. Hell, where the fuck has Zito been? He should have gave a statement on how poorly his team has been performing months ago, and he's just gonna stay silent and do nothing? Media needs to be on that! They need to get him out of hiding and make him answer to his mistakes. Instead, people in our media keep making excuses. They keep saying everything will be fine. There's already a meme going around of someone in Panthers media tweeting out something like "cats are finally turning it around and look to make playoff push" after the caps win. And after being rightfully roasted for it, he's doubled down and made MORE excuses. Saying bullshit like "every teams gonna lose without their top two centers" ignoring the fact this buffalo team was on it's THIRD GAME IN FOUR NIGHTS and we had THREE DAYS OF REST!. Every team has injuries, good teams find a way to win anyway. We are not a good hockey team right now.
Things I want to see from now on? I want to sell big at the deadline. Ship Reinhart off. Amazing player, love him, but you have to shed pieces to get pieces and stay relevant. His contract is pretty big, getting a first rounder back and a prospect would be ideal. Trade gudas. He's a great defensemen that the old hockey men upstairs in many teams Front offices absolutely love. I have no doubt we could get a haul for him. After the season when we have much more cap space. Sign some big names to fill out our holes in defense and depth. Biggest of all FIRE MAURICE. He is very clearly not a good fit for this team. It SUCKS that this move would make us look like a dysfunctional franchise, but sorry to break it to you, we are right now and will be even more if we keep this clown. Bite the bullet and either try to get Q back or go for an up and coming offensive minded coach that fits with our roster construction. Sorry y'all, but defensive minded guys aren't going to work if our roster was never built for good defense anyway, and if you want to get that, that means we're really going to have to blow up our whole team and go into complete rebuild, which I personally don't want and don't think is an option right now.
Just SO disappointing on so many levels.

The Panthers need to shed themselves of all of the Dale Tallon baggage, 100% trade Barkov, he can stick his hobby up his ass, trade Ekblad too we can get first round picks, and players for those two, I say fork it BLOW UP THE TEAM, it’s obvious we need to start over, my only disagreement is your take on Lomberg, he plays his ass off every game he’s a grinder not a sniper, Craig Anderson is another Panther killer since he was traded. This team blows, I’m very afraid of the ass kicking that is waiting on Tuesday against the Lightning.
Honestly, it's such a disaster that it is impossible for us fans to really know what the true cause or solution to the problem or problems is.
There is alot of stuff behind the scenes we obviously dont see. Is it players not wanting to play Maurice system or for him at all? Is it injuries?Did losing hubredeau the way we did cause a mistrust between players and this organization? Is it just mental?
We just found out knight is going through something, and I can guess and speculate as to what it is, but I don't know. That said, I do not believe the team or organization was unaware of it. Was this not handled properly and causing our players to notice and lose further trust with the organization?
I get it I'm kinda grasping at straws looking for some explanation but likely won't ever know. I just wonder if any other president trophy winners fell off a cliff to this extreme that the panthers did.
I feel there is not a desire to win from this team. With the exception of tkachuck, I'm not seeing that excitement and extra enthusiasm to play from these guys on any consistent basis.
I said in the 1st fan podcast we won't make the playoffs unless a miracle happens. Eric you said it by talking about developmental players. We don't spend anytime molding these guys from the ground up. Ironic because we have such a huge developmental program and farm club. It be amazing if we could get Connor Beddard! I'm good with getting rid of Barky, Bob and Ecky but no move contracts Gudas, cousins, Staal brothers.,White, Danesenko, Dalpe,Smith and Maurice That's almost blowing it up. Anyway we need to start doing the off ice work for next season but no draft picks were gonna be a shitty building team for at least a cple seasons.
You know my beliefs about Knight. There's only 1 reason everyone was so hush and suspect. Same deal as Damar Hamlin and other athletes. There's big money involved here and NDAs are signed. That's my opinion but it seems obvious. Well, it is what it is. Stu, there's nothing left to rant about bud. Unfortunately we live in a place where players are in heaven in the sunshine. It's hard to get your head in the game when it never gets cold and you can do whatever year round. Players come here for that and come here to retire also. That combo makes it damn near impossible to build and maintain a strong playoff/championship team. Zitto really has to pull some magic and hit the drawing board.
Guys were not out of the playoffs picture yet. The teams in front of us are not doing themselves any favors either their loosing. Not over until is over. Just disappointed we’re blowing our opportunity that’s the frustrating part
Honestly I'm all for firing both Paul Maurice and Bill Zito. Barkov needs to start stop getting injured all the time, Aaron Ekblad's just damaged goods with not much use anymore. Sergei Bobrovsky can't continue to break his back, we're ruining Spencer Knight. Mason Marchment and Maxim Mamin (m&m's) should've been resigned. Nick Cousins comes and goes, Colin White has been terrible and hasn't done anything since his first 15-20 games. Sam Reinhart took forever to finally get back in his groove, Anthony Duclair was injured for a maternity.
Those are the minor inconveniences but the real issues filter down to Paul Maurice and Bill Zito and quite frankly they need to GTFO! Also trade Aaron Ekblad, Patric Hornqvist and Colin White.
Stu league is lot of faster than crosby and ovetchkin started game. Thats the reason why people get more injured nows days. Biggest mistake would be trade Barkov only what i would do take C away Barkov. i would trade Ekblad he looks really horrible.
