Jesus Christ that Oleksiak contract is rough. Obviously extending Dunner has to be a priority. Soucy leaving will be nice as well. Extend Borgen as well

Edit: if Soucy isn’t traded of course

Oleksiak being our highest paid dman is somewhat ironic based on how valuable he actually is

We need to keep Borgen and Dunn, no question. I think it’s time to offload Soucy. Fleury could have a good future

You trade for more dmen to help you in the Playoffs., Don’t worry about offseason,

See what kind of deal you could maybe get at the deadline – if somebody wants to way overpay for soucy go for it. Otherwise wait till the end of the year.

Dunn, larson, borgan, oleksiak absolutely off the table for (realistic) trades.

  6. the relative contract values of megna vs oleksiak is insane lmao

It’s highly possible in both directions for Borgen. While hes been great in his role, he can be replaced but someone can argue his impact to team chemistry is notable and he’s still young with a lot of improvement in front of him. He could legitimately be one of the homegrown guys because thats what ultimately wins championships. I think he deserves a small raise in a bridge deal, let him develop further and revisit in 2 years.

Dunn deserves a contract. Hes played his role well and has improved greatly this year. He’s still young and his chemistry with Larsson is great.

I doubt anyone will pay for Oleksiak’s contract in a trade, even though hes not the most skilled guy on the ice, people seriously understate the absolute and utter need for a skilled team to have a few guys like him so it isnt all bad that hes under contract. There are worse cap hits to have.

Megna is actually one of those guys too. Havent seen enough of him though but he’s young, physical and doesnt cost much.

Soucy is underrated but is replaceable. Gotta have someone willing to take penalties and dole out hits while still maintaining skills such as shot blocking and stick checking. Hes more skilled than a lot of people on here seem to think. I wouldnt be upset if he got a contract but just like Wennberg in the forward group, hes the most tradeable guy on the D group. Doesnt mean i dont like him though because i do.

Schultz is coming off an injury so im rooting for him. He seems to be bouncing back well and we arent likely to trade him.

Larsson is flourishing here and is having a breakout season. Hes pretty well skilled and his chemistry with Dunn is noticeable. He is far and away the best DFD on the team. You dont trade a guy like this away on a playoff run on a growing and young team. Hes a great veteran presence and hes not even old. Not to mention i really like the fact that he got a fresh start here after all the drama he went through. He seems happy here and i hope he gets to retire here.

Cale is still young, and you could argue he’s underperformed a bit. But i like him. I think he has room to grow and deserves a bridge deal. Especially because guys like him and Borgen will become important in 4-6 years as the expansion draft veteran presences retire and leave. He has the potential to be very good and i don’t think he needs to go anywhere. I just wish his brother was happier here because they play better on the ice together.

Prospects such as Ryker Evans offer a tremendous upside once he becomes NHL ready. Hes playing well in CV and i hope he develops into a star. He doesnt cost much, and theyre unlikely to trade him as a prospect unless theres an offer they cant refuse. The Kraken have seemed a bit hesitant in general to trade any prospects away so one of their best D men prospects is likely off the table.

  8. Trade Soucy, extend Dunn, cry about Oleksiak.

At the trade deadline, I would probably hold. If there is a possible to trade Oleksiak, I would jump all over that and extend Soucy. Fleury is tradeable as well, but there will not be buyers for him at the deadline.

Offseason: lock Dunn down, sign Borgen, sign Soucy, qualify Fleury. Ryker Evans should be given a really good look next year, so don’t want to sign Fleury long term as he might bounce between the AHL and NHL next year. If we can trade Flurry great as we don’t need 8 D on the active roster. Oleksiak would be my first target to move if at all possible, but will be hard as the contract is more than he is worth.
