With the Wild deciding not to wear Pride jerseys tonight, Jon Merrill still hosted 30+ LGBTQ+ people at the game tonight

As a trans person, this whole refusal to wear Pride Night jersey thing is just… painful. An initiative designed to make hockey more inclusive is making me feel more and more out of place.

At least legendary Goal a Game forward Jon Merrill is an ally.

Jesus, the wild did too? What the hell. Thatโ€™s frustrating.

We’ve never had this issue with players or the entire team not wearing the jerseys, right?

Iโ€™m happy the VGK have made such a point to go all out for pride nights, jerseys, and merch. For those claiming any of it is virtue signaling it may be to you personally in your own experience, but my late best bud was gay and had never ever felt like the door was open for him with sports. I introduced him to the VGK and it was a combination of their effect to raise morale in the city after the shooting and their commitment to hosting pride nights that drew him in. The only sticker he ever put on his car was for the VGK. An organization going out of their way to say they support inclusion does have an effect. Sitting next to him in T-Mobile was one of our final memories.

Are they going to do pride nights for other title VII stuff?

Merrill is a character dude and I know he wasn’t the biggest contributor to points but I miss having him around. You’re always welcome in Vegas, Merrill.

You canโ€™t force people to wear propoganda for stuff like that
