Tage Thompson has had an interesting path to becoming an NHL star. From the Ryan O’Reilly trade, to missing a year from injury, to even having the Sabres offer to trade him away for just a fifth round pick. Today we explore that interesting path, from Blues draft pick, to Sabres prospect, to suspected bust, to NHL superstar.

Nice
Lets go Buffalo. TNT baby. Things finally looking up after years and years and years of disapointment. Atleast they are watchable now:)
Great video. Here's some extra information: When Tage took off in 2021-2022 It was when Granato took over as coach from Krueger. Krueger was a terrible coach who stifled a lot of the offense out of BUffalo (look at Dahlin and Skinner, no coincidence that Krueger leaves and both of them take off again), but more importantly Granato had worked with Tage through his time in USA hockey and knew Tage very well. Thus he switched Tage from Wing to Center starting that 21-22 season. The extra ice time and the extra responsibility and the extra range that centers get has seemed to let Tage flourish.
For years I called him the baby giraffe because of his lanky frame and soft perimeter game LOL. I'm thrilled I was wrong!!!
He's been a beast. That top line of skinner Thompson tuch is right in their prime and can last for years. I hope Thompson can somehow stay a superstar for his career, he's incredible to watch
When Granato moved TT to center, his game exploded. Playing between Tuch and Skinner doesn't hurt either. 👍👍
I watched him at Uconn
No mention of Granato's influence in all of this.
I read the title as the Risk of Tage Thompson, I was so confused for a long time lmao
Two of the biggest things in his development you didn't mention was coach Don granato and how he moved him to center. Vital info that should have been mentioned
As a Sabres fan we always knew he had the skill and the shot but he could never put it together in the first few years. He would pull off some amazing dangles and toe drags but it would always be in situations that didn’t matter or going in a pointless direction. Never around the net for some reason. He would never use his size or speed to gain the advantage, always his stick handling. It’s like his hockey sense doubled last season and doubled again this season.
epic fail by neglecting to mention the move to center, which is the main ingredient for the superstar pie he's eating now.
nobody in buffalo thought he would turn out like this, I can safely say I wasn't a critic of his but I didnt think he would be this good.
Lol… Had another Hat trick 2 games ago and 1 goal called back barely offsides… I doubted him… I will eat a crow… If we get a Cup… We win that trade imo. Or at the very least tie the Blues. But as of now… The goal of trades is to win a Cup imo… SO the Blues are still ahead. But that doesnt mean it wasnt a win win deal.
Its kinda creepy how similiar Tage and Josh Allen is… Both about 6'6, 6'5… Both around 25-26… Both looked at as Boom or Bust draft picks… Both were doubted by me and many Fans including the national media… Both eventually BOOMED into stardom around their 3rd Season. Both are on Buffalo teams and signed a 6 or 7 year deal… Both will lead us to a Championship! (To be determind)
Your volume is trash I have car and phone cranked
Moving to Center gave him more room to dangle and the more space to move around, being on the Wing put him against the walls limiting his range of motion and space to operate
McDavid is an amazing player but if Buffalo makes the playoffs, there shouldn't be another option than Tage Thompson, nothing McDavid can do this year will ever be more valuable in the regular season than what Tage could do if he gets Buffalo to the playoffs, same for Dahlin for the Norris, Granato for COTY and Kevyn Adams for the Jim Gregory as GM of the Year. Change my mind
I am sceptical about Ryan Johnson signing. And Granato put Tage in center where he blossomed. Thanks Donny.
Thompson is one of the few players I like outside of my Bruins.
It was just said that Tage Thompson got traded to Carolina Hurricanes o.O
Logan Paul
… And Ryan-O is now in Toronto. Sabres did good in this one.
