I've been watching hockey since the late 70's and I can tell you from that experience that I know a team that has a morale problem. The Calgary Flames are among the very best teams in the NHL on paper but clearly, CLEARLY the coach just doesn't have enough of the guys 100% buying in to his system. Put Marty St. Louis behind the bench here and they are a Stanley Cup lock…and I'm not kidding one little bit.
I work at the saddledome and I can confirm, I am slipping them sleeping pills before the game. In all honesty though, for media and such it is very easy to get in there and not many ppl ask questions. They do have it gated off and security so it would be a little tough. I stand by the issue potentially being Sutter, these guys just do not want to play together and it sucks listening to all my coworkers complain (I am an oilers fan so i provoke them)
It’s all mental. Zero or poor prep. Goalies letting in softies, players playing in la-La land, taking bottom feeders too lightly, gripping the stick too tight and can’t score. Whether it’s coaching or leadership, something needs to change as far as their mental attitude going into next season

I thought they played good that particular game and had good play from Marky. It was Gibson who stole that one. However, it seems like we give the other teams goalies confidence. Maybe because they know they’re going to have to face volume and prepare themselves idk. Team played good though

Calgary is a team that doesn't care. There is obviously a problem in the locker room. Sutter should be done. Treliving should be done (Markstrom's contract is a the biggest boat anchor in the NHL). Heck, the organization can't get a new rink built. Nothing is working for the organization.

Honestly after last season and all the moves that occurred with the flames I kinda seen this season coming. They seemed like a team poised to take down the cup and then they made that horrible trade with Florida and just like that so many key players were gone…super unfortunate.

Now that markstrom has been lights out lately, it finally exposes what I've been saying all year: they can't score! They're great at shot volume but terrible at scoring
I don't blame Sutter for the mess that Calgary is this year. I for one am disappointed as I love playoff hockey in Alberta and my Oilers aren't meant to be in without the Flames. Seems sacrilegious to me.
I think Hubs not transitioning well to the change (look at Campbell in Edm for a similar disappointment) is one thing, Markstrom not playing up to the standard we all expect, and honestly just all round bad luck are most to "blame" but who knows. This team should be just as good if not better on paper.
I was pumped for a good rivalry this year and it just never panned out.
