Expect him to jump into the lineup soon-ish. The Canucks will burn off a year of his ELC and give him some NHL pay to get him to join us and forego Free Agency. He won’t be able to join the AHL the rest of this season however as a result.
Drance and Dhaliwal had a short piece the other day about the Canucks courting McDonough. It seems like Allvin’s pitch included noting the changes/improvements to how the team’s minor league system and affiliate works. Allvin was also the one who was handling the meetings and making those pitches directly to McDonough and his family. Good signs there that they managed to convince him based on whatever internal changes have taken place now.
I’m not the hugest fan so far of this management but they have made more positive moves than negative. Bottom line, glad we didn’t lose/trade another prospect.
Will he still be an RFA after this deal expires?
